I have been a musician all my life, and have been producing and engineering for 7 years. Mixing is crucial to getting that awesome sound. Setting the vocals at the right level, making the bass and drums to sit tight on that groove, finding the right reverb. However great your song is, without the right balance and processing you are not going to get a look in.
I strive to be a chameleon. You wouldn't dress the same way at a fancy job interview as you would at a rock show. Similarly I wouldn't play the same way at a rock show as I would at the cocktail hour of a wedding. My goal is to make the music speak for itself, not to inject myself into the music.
