10 Years Experience. Recent Clients: Sam Smith, Majid Jordan, PJ Morton and more.
Hey thanks for being here!
I have 10 years experience working as a recording engineer, producer and mixer in Los Angeles. My journey started as an intern at Chalice Recording Studio, in Hollywood, and eventually I found myself recording vocals for some of my favorite artists: Sam Smith, Pharrell, Tate McRae, Zendaya and more.
My music taste tends to gravitate towards rich chord progressions, unique vocal tone and strong melody. Sonically, I understand the technical craft of mixing and production but I always put feeling first.
Currently, I operate out of my Hollywood studio and offer mixing & production to independent artists, major labels and various licensing companies: Paramount, Republic Records, BMG PM, The Terrell Show and more.
I’m here on SoundBetter to connect and grow with great music people. I'd love to chat about your project.

What an amazing experience I've had working with Josh! Very quick to get your work back, communicative and diligent. He really takes the time to understand what you need, asks questions and makes sure that you are satisfied with the work. I would definitely recommend him to anyone looking to get an incredible mix and master for their art. Thank you Josh!!
What I appreciated most about working with Josh was his professionalism and patience. It really made the process a great experience and I am extremely happy with how he was able to deliver on my project. Great work!
Overall, a great guy to work with. He's easygoing and approachable, but also professional and cares a lot about your mix and your feedback.

I recorded a Nylon string guitar session for Josh, overall he turned out being a talented producer and a great client, I highly recommend him!
This is my 2nd time working with Josh. It was a great experience and I had a fun time working with Josh. He is a gifted and a very talented engineer. Thanks Josh......the remix is dope!
You are so amazing.....Dunn
Superb experience. Wonderful ideas from a wonderful collaborator.
I will definitely work with him again.
Amazing talent. Will def get his help with mix/master in the future. highly recommended
Josh was incredibly attentive and sweet and got my song done in a timely manner on top of it sounding amazing. Can’t wait to work with him again
A real genius with a strong vision !
Fast and professional at the same time I’ll contact Josh for my next project without hesitation
Got everything how I wanted it to be A1 mixer
ABSOLUTELY AMAZING. He kept the vibe and core of the song in tact and put up with all my bullshit as i'm super picky! Can't recommend him enough
I had a great time learning more about Arcade from Josh. He is very patient, engaging and knowledgable. I went into the lesson with a fair amount of experience with Arcade but I learned so much more than I knew was possible. I'm excited to tap into all that Arcade has to offer.
This is the second song we mixed / mastered with Josh. A bit more challenging as it incorporated a lot of raw and processed sounds but Josh did a great job matching the tone and levels with our other tracks.
Josh was a total pleasure to work with: excellent communication, was patient, accommodating, and professional throughout the process, but more importantly produced great results!
Love it! Effective communication and really achieved what we were looking for aesthetically. Looking forward to future collaborations!

Working on his projects is such a pleasure! Can’t wait to work on the next one!!
Josh was patient, receptive, and skillful. Everything you'd look for in a great mixing engineer. He took the time to listen to my mix and sincerely comment on how he could improve the final product before we started. During the mix and master process, he heard me out on my most longwinded issues and actioned accordingly. Finally, he was patient as I took my time to decide on exactly what each revision needed. Great engineer! I highly recommend him.
Josh did a great job at making our song sound super pro while not sacrificing any of its original character and energy
This was a fantastic service, smooth easy, and really friendly guy. I don't trust super easy when it comes to my mixes....you can trust Josh
This was my 2nd time working with Josh. Now that we've done some work together already, he knows the vibe of my music and we were achieved a great mix very quickly on this tune. Talented and professional mixer!
Interview with Josh Florez
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: Rosalia, Anomalie, Pharrell, Justin Timberlake, Brian McKnight, Bruce Swedien
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: 2022 has been a level up year for me. I recently did a week long Masterclass in studio with Josh Gudwin (Engineer/Mixer to Justin Bieber, Bad Bunny, Dua Lipa and more.) I learned so much from this experience and have been able to bring more value and professionalism to my own clients. I also, recently finished a writing/production camp with BMG Production Music and Paramount the streaming network. My collaborators and I ended up turning in 4 songs to the camp and are excited to see what opportunities can potentially follow. I'm currently finishing up a certification course for Dolby Atmos. Atmos/Spacial audio is an immersive way to experience music. Where instead of a Left and Right speaker - you are truly surrounded by sound coming from all directions. This format has taken streaming platforms by storm and seems to be the way of the future. I'm excited to be offering this service here on SoundBetter. Simultaneously, I'm stepping into a very exciting album that will carry me through the rest of the year.
Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?
A: Aditya - Has been assisting me for 2 years now. He's my right hand man on each and every project. He's a great mixer and a hell of a producer. https://soundbetter.com/profiles/341971-aditya
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: I love both - Particularly, I like to record with analog gear on the vocal chain etc. But mixing In The Box gives me a flexibility where I can work efficiently and w precision for my clients.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: That it doesn't feel like a job! I choose my own hours and get to meet amazing people everyday.
Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A: "Can the song be louder?" My answer is YES, of course. But we will loose dynamics and life in the record AND the streaming platforms are going to bring the volume down on our song if it is coming in too loud.
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: This isn't Postmates. I'm a real human just like you, and the key to hitting your vision is strong communication and patience. We might not hit your exact vision on the first pass - but that's ok. We can talk it out and make adjustments. Also, if production or vocal performance isn't good, the mix simply won't be good. The song is the cake, and the mix is the frosting on top. Know this: 1. Music takes time, and luckily we have lots of it! 2. I'm the most patient person you will EVER meet.
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: What do you LIKE and DISLIKE about your rough mix? Do you have any references I can keep in mind while working on your song?
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: I work best when there's a true vision of your song. With no direction I will definitely get lost. Spending quality time on your rough mix is key as this will be my blueprint. Don't be scared to ask questions. I'm here to help and I speak artist! I'm so inspired by artists who invest in their craft. It's a true honor to be trusted with others art.
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: Laptop, Midi Keyboard, Coffee, My Wife and Nintendo Switch
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I studied Recording Engineering at Full Sail University and moved to Los Angeles 10 years ago. I've interned at various studios and earned my stripes. Today I operate completely as a freelance Mix Engineer & Producer.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: Commutative, easygoing, open-minded, and meticulous.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: I'd love to work with Justin Timberlake. His voice is insane and he's created an inspiring balance of music/film/and life. He's not always putting out music... but when he does... It's killer stuff!
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Take a walk. Whenever I get stuck on a song a nice walk helps me reset and come back with a fresh perspective.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: R&B, Reggaeton, Pop, Dance, Hip-Hop, Christian, Trap, Country
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: This always depends on the client, deadlines and etc. But first, I like to get all details possible about the project and then I will make an assumption about the turn around. I hit the studio everyday at 8 am - I have fun and create the first half of the day and then do mixing or production work for the second half.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: I have my own mix room at Chalice Recording Studios. I have access to a great mic locker with tons of vintage and high quality gear.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: Mixing, Mastering & Music Production
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: I recently did a project for an artist named Terrell Grice. This project featured 23 of the most talented singers in the game! Avery Wilson, Brooke Simpson, and Lalah Hathaway to name a few. I recorded almost every single vocalist and also mixed and mastered the majority of the project. It's called "An Invitation to the Cookout." (available on all streaming platforms)
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: My promise to my clients is that I truly care. I care about the hard work they put into their craft, and my job isn't to get in the way. I'm here to help bring YOUR vision to life & I'll do whatever it takes to make that happen!
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: Mixing and Vocal Recording/Production
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: I like to bring intention to a song. I'm a firm believer that simplicity can be quite beautiful. I'm very creative and love to try as many options as possible on a song BUT I never force something that doesn't feel like it truly belongs.
