Working with Marc was awesome. He gave me an awesome mix and took my notes perfectly. Easy communication, quick turn around, absolute professionalism, what more could you want! Highly recommend!

Dayummm. If you want a killer guitar sound this is the man! He definitely knew how to rock my song and take it up to a waaaaay higher level! It was such a pleasure working with Marc, he's fast, very professional and gives great feedback as well. I was so pleased with hearing even just the 1st mix and then just a couple of tweaks of panning and levels stuff was all I needed to feel like it was knocked way out of the park!!!! I highly recommend him!

Amazing experience working with Marc. The song was clearly written with a lot of passion and talent. I loved being a part of it.

Our previous work with Marc contained a lot of clean guitars and resulted in a mix that we were extremely satisfied with.
This time our work contained a lot of high gain guitar tones which presented a different challenge for us in terms of overall sound satisfaction.
Marc did another incredible job that captured the sound in our heads. We asked for some revisions that were purely based on taste and SFX being louder etc.
Marc is a pleasure to work with and a true professional. - check_circleVerified
I was interested in working with Marc after hearing him appear on a few podcasts talking about his mixing style and philosophy. I agreed with a lot of what he said and was excited to have a mix done by him.
The finished product exceeded myself and my band mates` expectations tenfold.
Highly recommend Marc and will definitely be coming back to him with future projects. - check_circleVerified (Client)
Was a pleasure working with Marc on this project!

Marc was accommodating and helpful, and that was such a relief this was my first track. He took my somewhat disorganized dream of a song and turned it into something better than I thought, and that I can really feel great about. If you get lucky enough to work with him, you’ll understand what I mean. Thanks, Marc. Until next time.

Great collaborator with ideas for miles. Even after many revisions of the film score he keeps his enthusiasm high.

Marc is my new go-to for arrangements and demo work. guy is awesome.

took my 6 out of 10 song and helped make it to a 10 out of 10 song

Marc is awesome. He helped with my arrangement and answered all my questions. I'll be hitting him up for more projects.

Awesome working with Marc. Hit it out of the ballpark with the mix! Great communication, got the sound, and quick turnaround.

If your music has guitars amps and live drums in it, you owe yourself a mix from Marc. Even his initial mixes are damn spot on and barely require feedback - he seems to somehow be able to read your mind at a distance (not sure about the deviled eggs, though). Top-shelf work, professional to the T, god's gift to rock'n'roll bands big and small.

Amazing guy to work with!! Great communication and works quickly!
Interview with Marc McClusky
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: Scott Murphy some commercials and a feature film.
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: I worked on a few Weezer records as a mixer. It was great for me cause I'm an actual fan of Weezer. It was a blast!
Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?
A: Not sure Ill have to look.
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: It doesn't matter. Do you like a green wall or a green wall? If the wall is cracked and needs work it doesn't effect the green paint. Fix the wall and the paint will look the same.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: You are going to be stoked when we are done and most likely learn quite a bit.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: I get to inspire people its amazing!
Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A: I don't get a lot of questions anymore. I guess I'm at the point where people seek me out for being me.
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: That it's an easy job. You have to be creative everyday, while that is amazing somedays you got to really take a deep breath and find your muse.
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: What are you trying achieve?
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Be clear about what you are looking for but also be open minded enough to try something new.
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: Well these days you can grab an Universal Audio Apollo and a mic and be good to go. Ill give a list of hardware and assume a recorder like a pro tools rig is already been dropped off on the island. My top five hardware gear list would be: a massive passive because its an amazing all around great EQ, an Empirical Labs Distressor like the Massive Passive it can handle anything you throw at it, a 1073 pre amp, a Lexicon 480L and lastly to capture everything a Manley Ref C. That mic make me look like a genius.
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I've been recording since I was 13 or 14 years old. I've been mixing and producing professionally for over 15 years. I am grateful everyday I wake up and get to do this.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: Forward thinking. I don't like to catch a wave , I like to create it!
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: Green Day. They have been one of my favorite bands since I was a teenager. I'd imagine you don't have to suggest a lot of ideas to them, I'd imagine its more of capturing their lightning in a bottle.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: The usage of compression is a lot like another saying...It's not how much your are using, it's how you are using it.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: I work on all types of music but I probably work mostly on Pop Rock and Hip Hop.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: My ears and ability to listen to my instincts.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: I bring a different perspective and a push to do something out of your comfort zone. New and interesting always beats safe and trite.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: I like to have a gut reaction to a song I don't like to think about to much because thinking is counter intuitive to music which should be an emotional reaction. I just let it be that...emotional!
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: These days I'm more in the box. I have a pair of ProAc 100 speakers with a Bryston 4B amp. A Universal Audio Apollo 8 and Apollo 8p for tracking and plug ins and a slew of mics. I don't feel the need for tons of outboard gear anymore.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: I'm a big fan a people like Brian Eno, Chris Lord Alge, Bob Clearmountain,
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: I mostly mix and produce for all types of artists.
