11 Songs completed - with quality sound and skill. Also, Alex had a willingness to work with us when we didn't know the type of organ sound we wanted on one particular song. Thanks for the work - I think Laurens Hammond would be proud!

Interview with Alex Kamm

  1. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  2. A: The people I meet.

  3. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  4. A: It’s a digital keyboard organ.

  5. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  6. A: Hammond, Leslie, Wurly, Steinway, Fender.

  7. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  8. A: I’ve been playing professionally since I was 6 years old.

  9. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  10. A: Most of my clients fall into the pop, rock, country or blues genres.

  11. Q: What's your typical work process?

  12. A: I work with my clients to provide the best recording in a professional, efficient and friendly manner.

  13. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  14. A: I’m usually hired to provide original Hammond organ or keys tracks for songwriters and artists. Most of my clients will send me a mix track and give me some context on what they expect to receive. I then provide the “glue” that makes the song complete.

  15. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  16. A: I promise I’ll meet your deadline and finish the job with a product that 100% satisfies your needs.

  17. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  18. A: Thick tone & tasteful playing.

  19. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  20. A: What is it exactly that's going to make this song shine?

  21. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  22. A: I find that keys players (including myself) often need to think more like horn players — taking “breaths” and proper phrasing is so crucial.

  23. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  24. A: Being able to hear and produce what fits and best serves the song.

  25. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  26. A: Analog — you can’t replicate the real thing!

  27. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  28. A: Hammond A-100 running into a Leslie 145 speaker with AKG condenser mics.

  29. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  30. A: Cory Henry and Robert Glasper are two of my favorite musicians today. Tremendous respect for industry pioneers like Rick Hall and the Muscle Shoals Rhythm Section.

  31. Q: How would you describe your style?

  32. A: Classic influences and technique with a modern edge and sound.

  33. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  34. A: Ask plenty of questions!

  35. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  36. A: It would be amazing to work with more powerful female artists like Billie Eilish or Maren Morris.
