Alan Siegler on SoundBetter

Mixer, Producer, Mastering @CardboardAlchemy / Soho. Its your music, lets make it so you're psyched to share it

Grew up in Virginia Beach, Virginia was exposed to a ton of different genres at a early age. My band in High School was in the talent show that the Neptunes were discovered in. Moved to New York 25 years ago after graduating Art School, have worked on music and have collected synths and gear the whole time.

I'm always learning and developing my craft. I've studied mixing / production in workshops with Tony Hoffer, Manny Marroquin, Malay, and Andy Wallace. I would say my mix approach is a culmination of their approaches all combined intuitively, internalized, and shaped by my own experiences.

I genuinely love, live and breathe music & work in every genre. I have a song writing / production space that I maintain in Soho, New York. Reach out, connect, and let's get your release out. Cheers.

Tell me about your project and how I can help, through the 'Contact' button above.

Interview with Alan Siegler

  1. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  2. A: Where do you envision this record being played? How/what do you want people to feel from this record? What do you feel works about the rough mix? & what do you feel doesn't work about it?

  3. Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?

  4. A: Alex Aldi is a talented mixer - he mixed most of the Ghastly City Sleep catalogue that I worked on. & I don't know them personally but Matt Bishop and Ben Etter mixed tracks that I wanted a different perspective on through SoundBetter: both of them did wonderful jobs and are great mixers. If you don't go with me: be sure to check them out.

  5. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  6. A: Analog for 3d depth, Digital for recall and automation.

  7. Q: How would you describe your style?

  8. A: My style is more of an anti-style (especially while mixing) If I do my job correctly, people experience the song directly and my presence is completely transparent.

  9. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  10. A: Sound selection, and context is key. A stock sound that sounds ridiculous on it's own can sound amazing in the right context.

  11. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  12. A: I work in a hybrid setup. Mostly in the box, and then analogue gear on summing and master 2 bus.
