Jako is one of the most creative and versatile mixing engineers & producers in Berlin. With over 10 years of experience, he has worked with hundreds of different artists and bands -- many of whom have had much success with the projects they created together.

Jako is a Mixing Engineer and works at the world-renowned Riverside Studios Berlin. In his career, he has released many critically-acclaimed projects, including two projects which were nominated for the German Jazz Price and Preis der deutschen Schallplattenkritik (German Record Critics’ Award). His sound is warm and detailed; even in out-of-the-box productions he always finds the sweet spot to make it sound fluent and coherent.

Trying always to understand the artist's vision, he likes to have in-depth conversations about the artist's inspirations & ideas behind their music. Bringing the sound to industry-standard level while keeping the music unique and engaging is his most important principle. Jako has produced genres anywhere from conscious rap to modern jazz to acoustic world singer-songwriter to indie rock; artists of all interests can find quality in Jako's expertise.

Great mixing engineer who can hear details and has taken onboard my feedback to produce a great mix and master. I hired him to mix my jazz trio so he is versatile and good with live recordings. Responses and revisions have been quick

Since I have been working with Jako, putting trust in him has been the easiest due to his efficiency and understanding of what a song truly needs to succeed. Jako always leaves room for exploration and helps by maintaining an environment for artists to feel comfortable making mistakes. I highly recommend Jako to any artist or musician, as he is a skilled professional in various genres and a seasoned engineer with a tremendous amount of experience.

Jako and I have been working together for almost 10 years now. In this time we've created so many beautiful songs and projects among other things my debut EPs. Not only have we been working productively but also creatively pushing each other in our abilities and strengths. Jako is an amazing listener and an immensely creative soul and I am thankful for each session that we have. I am always able to trust him with my music because I know he is able to understand what the music needs. Thanks for that Jako! <3

I worked with Jako on my debut collab Album ‘NEOPHYTE’ with him. It was so great to work with someone who was very interested in finding a way to blend both creative ideas and was willing to invest the required time and energy to create something as diverse as this project. Can only recommend, lovely working environment.

I have been working with Jako for nearly one year now, and as a FLINTA bipoc hip-hop artist it is such a breath of fresh air to work with someone as respectful as he is. One of the things that sets Jako apart from other producers is his ability to listen; both to the music and to the needs of the artist! Quality is at the forefront of Jako's productions, we have been creating absolute HEAT in the studio and I cannot recommend working with him enough :)

I work with Jako since more then 8 years, he mixed all the albums of my band and we even got some awards because of the sound quality. Also I appreciate him as an artist, drummer and producer. He has very good ears and wide good music taste. And I love his studio :) So I can’t just really recommend him.

Interview with jakohitsdifferent

  1. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  2. A: Taking this literally: M1 Macbook, dt880 beyerdynamic headphones, rme babyface, a neuman mic and a solar panel, making beats on the beach all day.

  3. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  4. A: 10 years, always produced and mixed my own projects and then started to get hired for different projects. I also studied Jazz Drums.

  5. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  6. A: Everybody who is deeply invested in their art.

  7. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  8. A: Mix with your ears and not with your eyes.

  9. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  10. A: Hiphop and Jazz, also im very experienced working with "real instruments". Im always open for niche and experimental music, too.

  11. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  12. A: I always try to serve the music, listen to understand what it needs, rather than applying presets.

  13. Q: What's your typical work process?

  14. A: Understanding what the artist wants to express and searching for the best decisions in close cooperation. Im very open for feedback and love to experiment.

  15. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  16. A: We have a big and beatiful room in the Riverside Studios, a creative space for production sessions and a great sounding space for mixing sessions as well. My costum drumset is always miced up ready for tracking a beat. I´m mixing "in the box" and I could call myself a plugin collector.

  17. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  18. A: Sampha stunned me with his last Porject "Lahai"- Never heard a so well composed, produced and mixed album.

  19. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  20. A: Beeing a creative consultant and making it work.
