Pop & Modern Country production with 25+ years of songwriting experience.
I’m a UK-based producer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist specialising in Pop and Modern Country. With over 25 years of songwriting experience, I bring strong melodic instincts, polished production, and versatile musicianship on guitar, bass, and vocals.
My work includes a growing catalogue of tracks signed to major production music libraries, including Sony BMG. I’m comfortable taking a song from rough idea to fully mixed, release-ready production, and I love collaborating with artists to bring their vision to life—quickly and to a high standard.
Let’s work together and create something beautiful.

Interview with Jon Chapman
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: Lots of modern country pop songs
Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?
A: Yes, i have worked with several vocalists that I would recommend. See my Reviews section
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: Digital. There's a lot of nostalgia around analogue but I work with both and give me the convenience of digital all day. You can get great digital emulations of most analogue gear now.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: Doing what I love so it doesn't feel like work
Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A: How do you write a hit song? TBH I don't think anyone has a magic formula for this!
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: That AI can replace me!
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: Provide reference tracks - songs you like that you'd like to sound similar to.
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Take your time and be sure you are the right fit for each other
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: An SM7B is like the Swiss army knife of mics! Good pair of headphones for mixing, a macbook, UAD audio interface and an acoustic guitar.
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I've written songs for over 25 Years. For many years as a struggling artist but then realised I enjoyed writing and production more than performing. In 2020 I decided to concentrate on production music for stock and sync libraries.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: Modern Classic
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: Would have loved to work with Elliott Smith when he was alive. Such a talented songwriter and musician.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: It doesn't matter how good your mics are if the source sounds 'bad' then the microphone will capture 'bad'. Make sure the source - instrument and musician or vocalist - sounds great and that will make your life much easier!
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: Pop and Country.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: I'd like to say Im strong with lyrics but actually I'm pretty balanced across the whole songwriting and production process. Although I learned that sometimes its best to call upon the skills of musicians who are masters of their instrument and can do a much better job than me!
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: Fresh ideas, creativity, hooks.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: Start with a good song. Lyrics and music usually come together. Then a good arrangement which makes the mixing process much easier. You don't need a too many parts, you just need smart parts!
