Interview with Eric Copeland
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: Usually when I find a partner to work with on a song we talk about our goals and how we can achieve them, then dive into the songs first. Demos grow into worktapes, we get everything on the grid and start adding players, or track in Nashville with the right group for the song. Then it's time for vocals which many singers can do in their home now, or I bring them into a studio to record. The it's about mix and where the song is going.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: Pretty simple really. Since my home studio is mainly for writing, a M1 Mac Mini, simple interface, a 61-note synth action keyboard, and a 88-note piano action keyboard.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: I have grown up admiring songwriters, composers, and producers even more than just artists, because that's what I have always been. People like Billy Joel, Bruce Hornsby, Jeff Lorber, Russell Ferrante, John Williams, David Foster, Jay Graydon, and more.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: The most common thing I do is work with other composers, artists, and partners on songs for TV, Film, Advertising, and Gaming. I think this is the final frontier in music income, and it only keeps exploding.
