Mason Douglas on SoundBetter

Nashville pro/hit songwriter and vocalist, specializing in contemporary vocal styles, a la Dierks Bentley or Keith Urban vibes. Pop/Rock background, as well

Hey y'all, it's Mason - thanks for checking out my page and I'd love to work with you on your project! On the sample track to the right, all tracks are produced, written, and mixed by me, with my vocals on the first 4 (cowriter Christie Huff on the 5th). I've done literally hundreds of demos and artist projects here in Nashville, with lead vocals as well as backgrounds. I cover a wide range of styles from "traditional with a twang" all the way through more Pop and polished sounds - it's your choice! All vocals can be tuned, as well as edited and aligned for the project. I'm also happy to mix them into your existing track, as an option. Please contact me with any questions. Thanks again for checking things out!

Send me an email through 'Contact' button above and I'll get back to you asap.

Right on point as always with the vocals, captured the tone and character exactly right to convey the lyric and I always get very swift responses and turnaround time..and Mason even helped with some excellent songwriting tips too, it’s always a great pleasure to work with him!

Mason has delivered stellar work once again, on another of my tracks. I got the complete session vocal experience as always, with loads of killer BGV's and adlibs. Loved it!

Another fantastic experience hiring Mason on my song, very prompt delivery and great communication. He goes above and beyond with the performance, especially adding creative bgvs, I truly get that feeling of having had a full vocal session each time he works on my tracks!

Mason is a consummate professional. His turn-around time was fast, his delivery was top notch and his voice and phrasing were fantastic! Anyone would be in great hands hiring Mason for there songs. He also delivered more than I expected and that is a very rare but notable trait in this day and age. Thank you, Mason, for knockin it out of the stadium!

  8. Review by Stephen C.

Totally professional experience with Mason, he's an extremely pleasant guy with great communication and he let me know time frames for deliveries which is always appreciated. Equally importantly, the vocals are world class, he has a fantastic voice and a very nice recording chain, the files he sent back are a pleasure to work with!

A good singer is easy to find. A great singer who understands music, production, and the art of crafting songs is rare. Mason is that rare find; a guy who’s experience and passion will take your project to the next level. We’ve worked together on many projects over the years, and I’ll never hesitate to work with him again in the future!

Interview with Mason Douglas

  1. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  2. A: That it's quick and easy. It is not. But it's worth it.

  3. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  4. A: What are some references, both in vocal style and instrumentation, that you'd like your track to emulate? Are there any looming deadlines?

  5. Q: How would you describe your style?

  6. A: I would love to write with/track with/hang with Counting Crows. I think their collective interpretations of Adams lyrics into some classics would be amazing to watch. There are dozens of others that would be surreal but that'd be the top one.

  7. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  8. A: Practice makes perfect! Practice, practice, practice...then practice some more. That's the true secret, no matter how much we don't want to believe it.

  9. Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?

  10. A: Philip Pence for bass and mixing needs....Greg Strizek for editing and mixing...Kris Bradley for vocals and production. Close friends that I respect and love.

  11. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  12. A: To get the project even better than you original imagined it!

  13. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  14. A: What I like most about being a producer and in the music industry is the independence. I have a new boss with every client, I get to be my most creative self, and my "cubicle" kicks ass - it's a great (and fortunate!) position to be in.

  15. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  16. A: I would suggest making sure there's communication about how on the nose you'd like to stay to the melody and phrasing. Staying right on it is no problem whatsoever but if you have an open mind for some variation, that's great to know so that I/we can experiment a little with the approach. Makes it interesting for everyone!

  17. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  18. A: I've been a professional musician and songwriter for nearly 10 years in Nashville - I was on an indie label with major distribution and was able to do an album and tour before landing a publishing deal, getting a few cuts, and developing a feel for how the industry works. Nowadays, I continue to write and work with aspiring artists in town, as well as cowriter and produce commercial releases.

  19. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  20. A: I have an in-home studio with Pro Tools 2020 running on an iMac, interfaced with a UAD Apollo and vocals piped through an AKG 414c. Some of the fun toys that make the projects are resonator/baritone/Nashville-tuned acoustics, Telecaster/Stratocaster/Gibson Les Paul electrics, a Native Instruments Maschine, and thousands of sound and programming option.

  21. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  22. A: The most common work that I do in the industry is track production and vocals, both of my own material as well as client projects. I specialize mainly in the Country and Pop but have also heavy experience in Rock and Hip Hop, both in tracks as well as vocal projects.
