Broad spectrum Audio Engineer. I love to mix and I specialize in making things... sound better

I enjoy all aspects of audio engineering, live sound, video and any entertainment production.

Worked in Nashville, TN since 2011 as an audio engineer. Many of those years as a Staff Engineer at Blackbird Studio. During my time there I was fortunate to engineer Per Gessle's two 2017 Albums, work with Dave Cobb, Jacquire King, Joe Ciccarelli, Steve Marcantonio, Toby Wright, John McBride, Dann Huff, Buddy Cannon, Tony Castle and many more amazing artists and producers.

Primary focus is now Front of House engineer for the great Charles Wesley Godwin.

Interview with Luke Forehand

  1. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  2. A: I am a staff engineer at Blackbird Studio and mix in the box out of my home. I primarily use Pioneer monitors, Fab Filter, McDSP, Slate and Waves Plugins. Happy to mix on one of the studio's consoles as well.

  3. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  4. A: The band Nothing More. Really love the sound and production of their last record.

  5. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  6. A: For mixing and tracking, I like to make sure the song lives in its own space and has its own identity. From a production standpoint, my goal is to make sure I identify with the artists' goal for the song and add/subtract elements that are necessary to take the song where it needs to go.

  7. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  8. A: I try to maintain my own identity as far as music production goes. I enjoy the work of others but do not strive to sound like certain individuals

  9. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  10. A: Mixing/Tracking, getting sounds.

  11. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  12. A: An electronic dance mix.

  13. Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?

  14. A: Not at this time.

  15. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  16. A: Depends on the project. Analog is fun, digital is a better tool.

  17. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  18. A: It will sound good.

  19. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  20. A: Getting drum sounds.

  21. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  22. A: It's not magic. A bad sound will not usually be transformed into a good one unless it is replaced.

  23. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  24. A: What their goals are, artists they like and how much of my input they want.

  25. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  26. A: Don't be afraid to communicate. It's your song.

  27. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  28. A: Enough gear to make a record and a way to connect to the internet.

  29. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  30. A: I've spent time in bands, working in live sound and doing studio internships. I've been interested in learning about music production for over 15 years.

  31. Q: How would you describe your style?

  32. A: Dynamic.

  33. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  34. A: Don't overdo it.

  35. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  36. A: Hard Rock/Metal/Country

  37. Q: What's your typical work process?

  38. A: Each session will have its specifics but I like to make sure we make the most of the studio time allotted.

  39. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  40. A: I mostly do mixing and tracking work.
