My name is John Alsop and I'm a mixing engineer, producer, guitarist, and composer. I graduated from Southwestern Illinois College with a degree in Music Technology back in 2014 and started working as a freelance engineer in 2015. Currently I've been looking to branch out into the remote mixing realm to further expand my career in the field.

Estudio 42 was born under the vision of Alejandro Castañeda, musician and independent producer with more than 10 years of experience. Being a space for creation and collaboration for bands and artists. Our goal is to offer the best audio quality with a personal treatment, creating synergies with projects that excite us.

An expert in vibe & creative, analog sounds, I will give your track space, emotion, and movement. I'm no stranger to dropping a 57 in a condom in a bathtub to get that "underwater" sound or sending your vocal track out through analog guitar pedals or tape. Why fake it when you can do it for real?

I'm best known for my film score work, most notably for the film Three Headed Beast, which premiered at Tribeca Film Festival in June of 2022. I've also scored several local films in Grand Rapids. I'm most proud of my work under the industrial/post-punk project Strange Skin, which I started in 2019.
