check_circleVerifiedWow, Chuck really found the groove and pocket to fit a live take on a prerecorded song. Great technique and interpretation of the song, Thank You!
Delivered the tracks just when he said he would, great turnaround. A true Pro.
check_circleVerifiedChuck is a fantastic drummer. Skilled, prompt and a pleasure to work with. Would highly recommend! 5 Stars
check_circleVerifiedI hired Chuck because I needed drums and percussion re-tracked. The original drums were done by one the most recorded and actively sought after drummers in LA. Top flight tracks. But he is on tour. Chuck is that same elite level. The tracks are the same elite level. Chuck's years of success as a studio drummer showed up in every aspect. Hire him for percussion too. Seriously. For real artist, a pleasure and he'll get it more than right.
check_circleVerifiedChuck always delivers the highest quality. Always my go to!
check_circleVerifiedChuck put drums and percussion on my track and has infused the song with so much life and colour! His drumming is fantastic and highly sensitive to the song and arrangement, brilliant musicianship as well as playing.
He did a great job of replicating the drums I had written and then taking it to a whole other level. He developed the percussion in ways I hadn't imagined and it worked so well.
Chuck was also very quick to respond & easy to communicate with. I cannot recommend him enough!
check_circleVerifiedAnother great performance and recording from Chuck!
check_circleVerifiedChuck was perfect, great experience overall, friendly communication, fast delivery, highly recommended!
check_circleVerifiedChuck was super fast to return drum tracks for my song and he nailed it! A true pro and I will return to do more songs with him in the future. Don't hesitate to work with Chuck.
check_circleVerifiedI needed a solid backing track to replace programmed drums for a demo I'm working on. The reference file was pretty rough and floated between multiple time signatures with no click track for reference.
Chuck knocked it out quickly and even had some great ideas for a different track. All in all, he was an absolute pro and all around pleasure to work with!
check_circleVerifiedChuck is rock royalty but also the grooviest, most efficient drummer and nicest person
I’m beyond thrilled to have collaborated with him

Interview with Chuck Sabo
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: Only good music! Something that inspires me. Melodic & groove oriented music I guess.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: Groove & creativity, & great recordings! I'm a songwriter, so naturally I play for the song. Many times I recored drums to just a vocal and a guitar, and it was built up from there.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: Another Level! Really great professionally recorded dry sounds, Excitement, Creativity, & Fat Pocket Grooves!
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: I received the files, right out the arrangements, and record! Then my manager Mike sends out an MP3 of my performance. If there are any revisions required, I will discuss them with the clients. Then do my best to make sure they're happy, & come back again & again! Communication is very important to me!
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: Big Sound Studio - Is A recording studio, designed and built by Flavio Acoustics Ltd. for the main purpose of recording drums. It's built and kitted out with pride and a lot of passion! It's equipped with a Mac Pro, ProTools, Urie LA 4s (vintage) valve compressor/limiter, Studio Spares Valve pre Amps, TL Audio Dual Valve pre amp, and similar Valve pre amps, Allen & Heath 2400 mixing desk, and the list keeps growing. 2 (L & R) valve mics, and 1 mono Neumann TLM 103 in the live room, D12 and shure 91 mics on the Bass drum, Snare top, Snare bottom, Tom 1, Tom 2, Hi Hats, 441s on the over Heads Left & Right, 10" snare Top, Ride cymbal... 14 separate Drum tracks in total. Yamaha Maple Custom Drums, Zildjian Cymbals, lots of percussion. Assortment of Top End microphones, Neumann, AKG, Shure, Audio Technica, etc. including a few vintage valve mics.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: Online / Remote Live Drumming & Percussion/ Programming/ and Mixing!
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: An LP for a new signing to CBS, at Big Sound Studio. Then online recording for two songwriters from SoundBetter. But every week/month is different! My solo album 'Running The Human Race', (release early 2019) and single 'The Politician' released end of 2018.
Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?
A: I've had nothing but good experiences with all the artists and producers I've worked with through SoundBetter! I know a lot of great players who are now with SoundBetter, and I'm always happy to recommend the right player for the right job.
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: It's personal choice! I know for a fact from recording on 2" tape, it sounds warmer & fatter. Especially drums. But the editing and sound of Pro Tools, is amazing!
Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A: Are you available to play on this song? It'll be my pleasure!
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: What feel, vibe, & sounds are you looking for? Do you have a reference song that may help? Are you open to suggestions?
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: Online / Remote work.... Because of so much under pricing, people think they can get quality work, that sounds great & adds to the song for next to nothing! But, you really do get what you pay for!!
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: As drummer and musical director for all Natalie Imbruglia Tours & records. The Elton John albums 'The Lion King' and 'Duets For One. The XTC album 'Apple & Venus'. Obviously for all the Hit records & great LPs I'm drumming on!
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: Unfortunately online sessions are not as personal as being in a studio together. But with the right communication, it should still be very enjoyable and great for the songs! That they can enjoy the process, and walk away happy!
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: Creating great sounds, and playing great original rhythms, in the pocket. Also playing to some great new songs!
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: You always get what you pay for! If it looks too good to be true, it probably is! Do the best job you can, and finish it, before playing your songs to any industry people. Do not expect them to imagine what you hear. Spend a little & do it right!
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: I've already worked with so many greats, but I would enjoy working with Peter Gabriel, Earth Wind & Fire, Foo Fighters, and many more..... I love the songs, the grooves, and the pros that they are!
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: It usually sounds right when it feels right! Another GREAT tip is.... avoid the Demoeyetis Disease! When a musician is replacing a programmed part that they've grow so accustom to, Take the time to get used to that musicians contribution, and avoid just getting your programed parts copied!! Listen with a open creative mind, before reacting!
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: Steve Gadd, John Bonhom, Steve White (Earth Wind & Fire), Crosby Stills Nash & Young, Foo Fighters, Steely Dan, Pink Floyd, Singer Songwriter, Folk, and many others!
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: Creative Pocket Groove Drumming
