Interview with Camilo Vega

  1. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  2. A: El Capo (one of the most important TV Show in latin america, transmiten in more than 75 countries), on wich I worked in the three seasons, I did the music the way I wanted, and felt more confortable, there was´t bounderies, I transmitted in all the music project all my talent and feelings as a composer and producer.

  3. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  4. A: Universal Audio, Neumann, ProTools, Logic, AKG, Telefunken, Yamaha , Kawai, Fender, Gibson, Martin, Taylor, Pelonis.

  5. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  6. A: George Martin, Michael Jackson, David Foster, Emmanuel Ruffinengo, Julio Reyes.

  7. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  8. A: Ana Ro, Gigi Possada, TED Talks.

  9. Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?

  11. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  12. A: Both, the tools are there to be used, depends on your talent, and to get into know each one to make the best benefit possible. The use you give to the equipments or plug-ins or any tool you have is what makes you special. Everything is in constant evolution, the changes are good if you do not forget the history where they came.

  13. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  14. A: I can´t make you famous, but you can trust on me, I will give you the best from my heart and my talent to make it worth it!

  15. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  16. A: The love I put in each project that came to my studio.

  17. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  18. A: Alejandro Sanz - Sting. Two great musicians, artists, and amazing performers.

  19. Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

  20. A: If all the recorded instruments are real or midi?, at least it would be specific necessary to use them midi, for an electronic music or an specific track, I will use only real instruments.

  21. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  22. A: I am very picky with my projects, and sometimes looks like a very hard worker to others.

  23. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  24. A: What do you want, what are your music references, what are you expecting of ?

  25. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  26. A: The concept and the ideas to the project will be made by the artist and I, together, I need to understand and have a synergy with the point of view from my client expectations.

  27. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  28. A: 4 Guitars 1 Guitalele

  29. Q: How would you describe your style?

  30. A: I am completely passionate with my work, organized and clean.

  31. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  32. A: Keep the importance on the texture and qualities from the instruments, voices, etc. That will lead you to use the best of what each piece of them to increase the value of your song. Don't use sound effects as effects , but only as an instruments.

  33. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  34. A: Pop, Rock, Latin, Soundtracks, Ballads.

  35. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  36. A: I do focus on details, each step is like has to be the last and the most important, so from the beginning to the end, everything has to be measured and with a great quality control. No gaps on the production.

  37. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  38. A: I do my best in each song, and project, to bring the light inside and make it shine. And the song can transmit more than notes and be emotional, specially to my client.

  39. Q: What's your typical work process?

  40. A: First the contact with the artist , has to be completely clear and honest to understand what his (hers) expectations are. The model, the conception of the project has to be perfectly detailed and carefully done, before goes to the next step of the production, the client has to be satisfied with the sound, the quality. I do have extremely care with the melody, the harmony, all the notes. If everything has the minimum of details exposed and well done, the next steps are going to sound and match better.

  42. A: General musical production, soundtracks, sound effects, Latin music, rock, gospel, pop, rancheras, salsa, reggaeton.
