Jason Richmond on SoundBetter

Grammy-nominated mixing and mastering engineer working in stereo and Dolby Atmos. I’m most drawn to records with a strong sense of character and emotional connection, and I try to bring clarity, depth, and intention to every mix. Past collaborators include Joe Henry, The Avett Brothers, Jake Xerxes Fussell, Nnenna Freelon, and Margaret Glaspy.

Jason Richmond is a Grammy-nominated mixing and mastering engineer working in stereo and Dolby Atmos. For decades, he’s worked with artists and producers to make records that prioritize feel, dynamics, and musicality.
His work spans jazz, americana, indie, and rock, with a focus on clarity, depth, tone, and capturing the emotional core of a performance. Jason’s approach is centered on making mixes that translate well across systems while still feeling natural and connected to the music.

Jason works remotely and from his studio in North Carolina, offering stereo and immersive mixing and mastering for artists looking to make thoughtful records rich in character.

I’ve had the privilege of working with a range of artists, including Joe Henry, The Avett Brothers, Jake Fussell, Nnenna Freelon, Rising Appalachia, Margaret Glaspy, The Steep Canyon Rangers, Dom Flemons, and Clem Snide.

Jason absolutely nailed this record. He took the vision I had and elevated it in a way I didn’t even know was possible—bringing the song to life with depth, clarity, and a real emotional pull. The production feels intentional, the mix is clean and dynamic, and everything just hits the way it should.

What stood out most was his ability to create space while still maintaining momentum—nothing feels overdone, but nothing is missing either. He has a great ear for what a song actually needs.

I wouldn't trust my music with anyone other than Jason. Through his expert mixes, he brings out the beauty of my original songs. He has a way of knowing just what my voice and all the instruments need and where they should go. Never overdone, always natural (just how I like them), beautiful, and done efficiently in a timely manner. I wholeheartedly recommend him.
