Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

A: I got to record at Abbey Road with Noel Gallagher on his last EP. I sang backing vocals.

Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?

A: Victoria Beaumont is just amazing. She is an incredible producer, songwriter, singer and person.

Q: Analog or digital and why?

A: A combination of the two. Digital is super quick, really effective, but analogue has a warmth and soul that is hard to recreate. I have worked on both before.

Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

A: What are you looking for in terms of feel, style and vibe of the track. What is your time frame?

Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

A: Be concise in your brief. . At least 2 or 3 references to the style of track and type of vocal. Let me know your thoughts. I don't get offended easily and want to get the best result for your project.

Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

A: I've been singing professionally for 23 years. In my early 20s I toured with a band and then pursued a solo career. but kept getting knocked back. I continued songwriting and had some cuts but I started doing more session and production music work. In 2017 I joined Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds and had success touring, but still continuing to write and perform with my own band Wonder 45.

Q: Can you share one music production tip?

A: To get a great choir sound with the same vocalist, pitch shift the track down by 2 or three tones, record your voice to those pitch shifted tracks and then pitch shift both back up. Do this multiple times at different pitches to get a great choir effect.

Q: What's your strongest skill?

A: I learn really quickly and I have a strong understanding of musical styles and the right vocal for that style.

Q: What do you bring to a song?

A: I think I bring power, real emotion, grit, energy and uniqueness.

Q: What's your typical work process?

A: I usually receive the track with either a guide vocal or notes from the producer about what they want in terms of vocal approach and then record it and send it back. If it's for a top line, I tend to write melody and lyrics alone and then send back with the recorded vocals but happy with collabs too!

Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

A: I use Logic Pro X. I have a SM7B mic with cloud boost, A Mackie Big Knob, Neve 1073 Preamp Compressor unit.

Q: What are you working on at the moment?

A: I'm working on my second album with my band Wonder 45 and lots of production music composing. We do a lot remotely, so my studio is a life saver!

Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

A: I promise to put my heart and soul into every vocal, backing vocal and any topline you receive from me. It will be on time and I will work with you to get exactly what you are looking for.

Q: What do you like most about your job?

A: I love the catharsis of singing. It makes me feel alive. I love the feeling a song can give me, hearing a song come to life from a small idea and how working with someone on a song can form a great bond.

Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

A: How quickly can you get the job done? I always ask whether there's a deadline and do my upmost to deliver.

Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

A: That is just a bit of fun or a hobby. It takes determination, serious graft and an ability to get back up after many knock backs.

Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

A: If there was power on the island, I would take... 1..Sm7B mic 2. Laptop/ 3. Travel midi keyboard/ 4. Closed back Beyer 770DT headphones 5. UA Vault 276 Audio Interface and obviously, connecting wires. Can I also take a guitar?? Haha

Q: How would you describe your style?

A: Raw, real, soulful, sexy, powerful.

Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

A: I would love to work with Sting. His songs are just incredible and so unique to him, even in the Police days.

Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

A: Mainly pop and soul music.

Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

A: I love the drummer Stewart Copeland. He has such a unique style and brings an incredible energy and dynamic to the songs he has recorded.
