RICHARD LANE on SoundBetter

Songwriter/Singer, Arranger, Custom Music composer. I love to provide a polished, professional and great-sounding result that I, and anyone would be proud to share with the world. Songs are timelines of our lives and I would love to be part of creating that memory for you in a unique and everlasting song or piece of music.A perennial legacy .

I offer arrangements ,full band or basic (depending on your budget) to make your composition come alive, or collaborate with you to write a song for an event or cherished loved one. I have access to world class session musicians if you want a solo on an instrument I don't play or even a genre i may not be completely comfortable with. I provide voiceover and jingle services, music for documentaries, funerals, events etc. If you need something done,I can do it.

My music career has included performing in major international venues in South East Asia, the USA and Britain, as well as being the opening act for Kool & The Gang, Canned Heat and the Yellow Jackets. In addition, I have performed and composed many radio and television commercials, both as vocalist and voice-over talent for companies which have included, McDonalds, KFC, Pizza Hut, Coca-Cola and Heineken.I had great fun recording a CD with such notable jazz and pop musicians as Nick Manson, John Patitucci, Marty Walsh, Eric Persing and Steve Tavaglione and my new contemporary 'faith-challenged' album "Out of the Shadows" featuring some of those previous session guys along with John JR Robinson on drums and Danny Morris on bass, is available on CD now and, online, via iTunes and Amazon and CD baby.

From start to finish, working with Richard was a pleasure. He paid great attention to my project, wanting to know as many details as possible before he began working. Even though I'd commissioned him during a busy time in his schedule, he made sure I never felt neglected by emailing regular status updates and, in the end, the song he produced was gorgeous. I would happily hire him again!

I am currently working with Richard Lane on my latest album. It has been and continues to be a complete pleasure working with him. He is a very fine musician with a wide knowledge of musical styles. He has listened to me at every stage of the recording and works his magic to realise my ideas. Sessions are professional and comfortable. I am very pleased that I chose Richard to produce this record!

My daughter is hoping to pursue a career in the West End and I hired Richard to arrange a song for her Audition showreel. I was amazed and delighted by the quality of the arrangement and production and my daughter sounded great. Richard really understood how to help her give a good performance even though she had not recorded before.
I then commissioned Richard to write some background music for

I was the recipient of a very special surprise birthday song written and sung by Richard and for me to say that I was completely blown away by it would be an understatement. Thank you so much Richard.

I worked with Richard on multiple occasions mixing a couple of project for him. He's a true professional, knows what he's looking for and very easy to communicate with online.
He excels in spacious atmospheric productions, beautiful vocal harmonies and a very warm yet modern sound.
His music was a great pleasure to work with, and I would love to work with him again in the future. Recommended A+

I worked with Richard 14 months ago mixing a number of the pieces of music he used on his website. What surprised me was the variety and depth of Richard's compositions and his beautiful choice of instrumentation.

He also played me some songs that were released on his CD (late 2016) and there were a couple that blew me away emotionally and musically

Without a doubt one talented writer!

  3. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  4. A: Currently most of the work I am doing is writing, arranging and producing songs for people who have a basic track and want to turn it into something they can love and cherish and that will outlive even them. People love hearing their basic tunes come alive in a professional band recording!...... Writing made to order or custom songs for people, girls who love boys and vice versa... or a wedding or anything really.

  5. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  6. A: I am proud of all of them

  7. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  8. A: An arrangement for a songwriter

  9. Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?

  10. A: Carlos Freitas from Classic Master for mastering

  11. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  12. A: Both have merits.

  13. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  14. A: My best and, if that's not good enough, a recommendation for somebody else.

  15. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  16. A: The music and the people.

  17. Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

  18. A: How much? :) Depends upon what I am asked to do.

  19. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  20. A: That it's quick and easy and that somehow I arrived at the ability to play music by osmosis and not by toil and sweat and, unfortunately, very often that musicians aren't deserving of adequate pecuniary reward for their services.

  21. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  22. A: As many as I possibly can to get as close to the result they are looking for.

  23. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  24. A: I am sure that they don't need advice

  25. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  26. A: iMac, interface, monitors, keyboard and Omnisphere II.

  27. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  28. A: Since 1981 - guess that blew the age thing!

  29. Q: How would you describe your style?

  30. A: Probably a little ancient and modern I'd say (for those of you not familiar with Anglican hymn books, that may fly over your head!) I do like slick productions. I have never understood people who use the words "over produced" but they seem to be used by people who settle for less than perfect, perhaps a little too easily. I am far from perfect but it is what I strive for with every song and with every production.

  31. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  32. A: I'd spend the next day filling this box up! So many artists and for many different reasons.

  33. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  34. A: Never stop learning music production tips!!!

  35. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  36. A: Pop ballads mainly or at least it seems that way recently! But it's diverse and varied.

  37. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  38. A: I like to think it's interpretation of the client's needs http://niltavamusic.com/n/index.php/testimonials

  39. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  40. A: Emotion hopefully! It's important to me that both the client and I share a "goose-bump moment"

  41. Q: What's your typical work process?

  42. A: Talking to the client and finding out the direction they really want to go in Making a quick "sketchpad" for the client and if we're on the right track, start with a skeleton and add the meat

  43. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  44. A: So many to mention! Dave Grusin, Tommy Lipuma, Donald Fagen, David Foster, Barry Gibb ... the list goes on and on!
