Fast and very easy to work with. I highly recommend Patrick.
One of the UK's finest musicians. I had the pleasure of working with Pat during my time, producing, writing and touring with Incognito around 1992-93. More recently he's supplied me with some excellent sax recordings for various remix projects. An all round thoroughly gifted and decent chap!
Patrick is an outstanding saxophonist, fantastic soloist as well as a supremely solid and funky section player. I have booked Patrick as both a soloist and a big band member, played with him and stood next to him many times. First call for me…
Patrick is a brilliant improviser with an exceptional ear. He can play marvellously well in any style as you can see from the wide range of famous musicians with whom he has played. He is also great at producing and composing. I have been fortunate enough to have shared the bandstand with him and he has been inspirational every time. Patrick is a wold class musician and I cannot recommend him highly enough!
Patrick is one of the most talented and professional musicians and composers I have ever known. He's an incredible live performer, but at the same time, he's an exceptional producer and composer!
Patrick has been a great friend and colleague for many years it’s always a pleasure to play with him a true amazing musician and a big hearted gentleman
I have nothing but admiration for this very talented musician, a Saxophonist that players with heart and soul and a brilliant writer band arranger.
Played a solo on my soon to be released album Just another day, took it to another level. InspirationalPatrick Clahar is an extremely accomplished saxophonist able to interpret what is required musically across multiple genres as both an arranger and soloist. He is easy to work with and extremely professional. Absolutely one of the best around.

Beggar & Co/The Brit Funk Association.Patrick is one of the world’s best reed players and Flutes as well! He played authentically in all genres so can really make any music come alive. Also he is professional reliable and a really lovely man
Patrick has been playing with our band Light Of The World for over 30 years and he has never failed to deliver an impeccable standard of Saxophone playing, his solo playing is second to none and I can truly say he is the most excellent saxophone player I’ve ever had the privilege to work with. Interview with Patrick Clahar
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: Bill Bruford's Earthworks was a great time - I recorded 3 albums with Bill and toured all over the world. I played tenor and soprano saxes - the music was very challenging and pretty quirky!
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: I'm working on some of my own material at the moment alongside session work and gigs.
Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?
A: Definitely - Drummer Marcus Finnie is an unbelievable talent and super-professional!
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: Both - horses for courses!
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: I always go the "extra mile" to give the client what they want. When the client's happy, I'm happy!
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: Doing what you love!
Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A: What's your turnaround time? - Within 48 hours of receiving the track and chatting through it.
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: Underestimating the importance of experience.
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: I always request at least one reference track and will book a video chat upfront to establish their exact requirements.
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Take your time and find a provider who most closely matches what you're looking for with a proven track record. The online space can be a minefield so do your research and then trust them to deliver the goods.
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: Tenor sax, soprano sax, headphones, MacBook and mic.
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I left school at 17 and started touring and recording - so 40 years in the business. My first session was for Pete Townshend at Eel Pie Studios. I did my first world tour with Basia at 22 and soon after that joined Incognito......
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: A mix of jazz and all the styles of music I've been fortunate enough to be part of such as Classical, Funk, Soul, Fusion, Reggae, and Pop.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: Herbie Hancock - because he's Herbie!
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: A/B with a great reference track.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: Jazz, funk, soul, acid-jazz, fusion, R&B, anything with a horn section.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: I would say soloing is my strongest skill - getting the balance between interesting and memorable is always a challenge!
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: I strive to bring something beautiful that enhances the song - the song is paramount and sometimes less is more!
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: After discussing with the client, trusting my instinct that what I'm delivering is right for the track - fortunately, the client is normally happy with the end result!
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: I record in my acoustically treated studio with Logic Pro X, Neumann mic, and Focusrite preamp, JBL monitors - simple but works for me!
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: Michael Brecker, John Coltrane, Grover Washington Jr, Stanley Turrentine, Joe Henderson, Wayne Shorter - all soulful with beautiful tones!
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: My work is pretty much 50/50 between sax solos/melodies and horn section work.
