Gabriel Westphal on SoundBetter

I like producing music, and being challenged. I am curious to discover your musical universe and I can’t wait to share its creation with you!

Gabriel Westphal was born in 1989 into a family of artists. He grew up in the world of the Cirque du Grand Céleste, created by his parents. It was in this company that he took his first steps on stage. He showed an interest in music very early on, and more particularly in a drum set made of pots, before starting his first lessons on a real instrument at the age of 4. He passed through the Mantes la Jolie conservatory where he obtained his Current Music Prize before joining the Didier Lockwood Music Center, a school of jazz and improvised music, from which he graduated and was top of his class.

A sound craftsman in different forms (musician on stage and in the studio, but also composer, arranger, sound engineer), Gabriel Westphal relies on his creativity and versatility to best serve the musical subject on which he works. A multi-instrumentalist, his curiosity and his culture of sound “material” drive a quest for singularity. He particularly likes old drums which he chooses for their very specific grain, but also draws his inspiration from an instrumentarium of unusual objects which he will hunt or recover according to his research and put at the service of his different productions .
