Listen Up Mastering Jamal Ruhe on SoundBetter

Jamal Ruhe is a musical midwife who has helped to bring thousands of projects into the world. I am an experienced mastering and mixing engineer. I've been privileged to work on music and video / film audio with hundreds of artists in Nashville, Memphis, L.A., Phoenix, and of course New York. Anti-racist, Anti-sexist and LGBTQIA+ friendly.

I have a very broad definition of what mastering is, based on my experience and how things are handed to me. An artist team, whether that’s someone at home with a four-track or video post, where 15 people are involved in decision making, gets to a point at which they are at their maximum. They’ve made it as good as they can make it.

Whatever I am handed, it's my job to finish it.

My role is to leverage my technical and artistic abilities to help artists bring their work to fruition.

Contact me through the green button above and let's get to work.

Endorse Listen Up Mastering Jamal Ruhe
  1. Review by Mike Butler
    starstarstarstarstar

Jamal has been my go to mastering engineer for over 15 years. His masters just make everything sound bigger, better and more professional, without killing the dynamics or feel of the mix. I highly recommend him to anyone looking for high quality audio.

Interview with Listen Up Mastering Jamal Ruhe

  1. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  2. A: I love getting to help bring a work to completion. After conceptualizing and writing and recording and mixing a piece of music, I get to be there and hand over the thing itself.

  3. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  4. A: I first set foot in a professional studio in Nashville before digital mutitracking.

  5. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  6. A: No tool or technique can substitute for artistic intent and genuine emotion.

  7. Q: What's your typical work process?

  8. A: I get a first song to a place where you are excited about it. Once we're on the same page, I move forward and finish the rest of the project.

  9. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  10. A: An artist team, whether that’s someone at home with a four-track or video post, where 15 people are involved in decision making, gets to a point at which they are at their maximum. They’ve made it as good as they can make it. They give it to me to finish it.
