I compose and produce music

Massimo Pierini on SoundBetter

Experienced composer, multi-instrumentalist and studio owner available for composing soundtracks

I am an Experienced and original composer (member of the Italian Society of Authors and Editors since 1990)
multi-instrumentalist, singer and studio owner.
I am available for composing soundtracks for documentaries, movies, theater shows.
I can produce a unique sound for your soundtrack using both western and eastern instruments. I am also a fine sound designer. I can give you a traditional sound as well as an experimental sound..
At your preference, I also have a large database of compositions (songs and instrumentals) ready to be produced and included in your movie.

I write nearly every style of music: classical music, ambient, cinematic, jazz, blues, rockabilly and more.

I am selective and I will work for projects I believe in. Also because I am very busy. My daily routine is in the studio producing singles and albums for various projects.

Among my favorites video products: noir, sci-fi, fantasy, comedies, cartoons, action, documentaries

Interview with Massimo Pierini

  1. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  2. A: I worked in collaboration with a Jazz singer. I was the songwriter and the executive producer. The song is titled "Look Look Look" and will be published shortly

  3. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  4. A: I am working on a couple of jazz songs. I will be producing a soul album to be published next year... and work on some classical piano tracks just for relaxing.

  5. Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?

  6. A: No, I just arrived.

  7. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  8. A: I like vintage instruments like guitars, amps, mics but recording has to be digital nowadays. I like to make a clean job also methodologically.

  9. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  10. A: that I will do my best to make them glad with the result

  11. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  12. A: the creative part, no doubt! When things start to take shape.

  13. Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

  14. A: Typically what is the hourly or daily rate. I may say it but I prefer to make an estimate of expenditure. So I ask as much information as possible about the product we're gonna make.

  15. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  16. A: Probably that I will work for the money. You pay me I do the work. That's the biggest error. I have to like the project and believe in the project. So the product have to be good and the prospects too. Money is compensation for work not motivation to work.

  17. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  18. A: I would ask what budget they have. How many minutes of music they need. at what level the video will be distributed. Things like that.

  19. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  20. A: If you have a clear idea of what you want be communicative. Otherwise let me choose what's best for your product. If you step into a restaurant you won't ask for a cheeseburger right? So let me serve you.

  21. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  22. A: in a desert island there would be no electricity so no gear, just acoustic instruments! LOL

  23. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  24. A: I started playing guitar as a child. I began writing fine song at 20. At 21 I also bought an electric pianola. At 20 I also was experimenting and making electronic music with the Bob Yannes SID sound chip. I started my first band at 22 my second band at 34 and my third at 41. I started my first MIDI studio in 92. I began recording audio tracks in 1999. I make music since forever

  25. Q: How would you describe your style?

  26. A: My style is very personal. I tend to avoid virtuosity and to focus on the content.

  27. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  28. A: Steve Hackett. I use to listen to his music when I was a child. One of the greatest guitarist in the world and still seems an humble person. I think I could add something to his music he might like. Talking about jazz I would gladly work with some black lady singer with a warm voice.

  29. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  30. A: Trust your own ear but don't layer multiple piano parts! LOL

  31. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  32. A: Blues, soul, rock'n'roll, pop rock is the music that I make since I was very young both as a songwriter, guitarist and singer. I work on Jazz, ambient, progressive rock. I also have a number of classical music composition.

  33. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  34. A: Songwriting.

  35. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  36. A: My emotions, my feelings and my experience. I never try to emulate someone I am not.

  37. Q: What's your typical work process?

  38. A: Anything starts with an inspiration, then I record a MIDI keyboard creating the arrangement. When the arrangement satisfy me I jump to the real instruments like guitars, bass, drums, vibraphone for the real production. Then there is the post production.

  39. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  40. A: I work at Nautilus Studio www.maxmarinaio/nautilus/

  42. A: Duke Ellington, Peter Gabriel, Brian Eno, The Beatles, Bach

  43. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  44. A: I compose songs and instrumentals, I play them, arrange them, produce them to the final master. I am also an artistic director so I could choose very well what artist and music is fit for a project as well as for a live music festival
