Interview with JPedro-Musician and Producer
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: Digital for the ease of editing and mixing, analog for the sonics when recording.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: To be honest about the song(s), and to deliver the best work I can do.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: Any artist who I can connect with and vice-versa.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: When hitting the record button, make sure that the sound you're recording is right for the song. It will always sound more natural that trying to fix it in the mix at a later stage.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: Pop, Dreampop/Shoegaze, Alt-Rock
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: The ability to understand the essence of a song, and what it really needs.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: I bring all my passion, knowledge and music background, and do whatever it takes to serve the song and the artist, so that when the song is finished it just feels right!
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: The first thing I do is to talk with the artist about the goals and expectations with the song(s). Then I'll listen to the song and check if any changes are needed (structure, chords, melody) and will suggest to the artist. Once me and the artist are happy with that, the production process begins and I'll do whatever is needed to get the song to sound right.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: My home studio is a very basic but efficient one. It's mainly used for working with virtual instruments and to record whatever I need when producing in my studio. I use Logic Pro X with plugins from Waves, Slate Digital, Plugin Alliance, Focusrite, Novation, XLN Audio, and monitor everything through Yamaha's HS Series and Sennheiser.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: Paul Epworth, Rich Costey, Chris Lord-Alge, Manny Marroquin, Muse, David Gilmour
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: Most of what I do when working with singer-songwriters is to provide them fully produced and mixed tracks based on the vocal/instruments recordings and genre that I'm given.
