Fermín Aguirre on SoundBetter

I would love to collaborate with you, either by creating arrangements, improvising or following your instructions to achieve what you imagine for your project! Versatile guitar player. I specialize in funk, jazz, soul, tango and argentine folklore.

Hi, I'm Fermín Aguirre, musician, guitarist. I've been playing professionally since 2014. I was part of different groups and projects related to styles such as funk, soul, jazz, folk and tango.
I perfected myself with different musicians and I graduated from the EMPA (Escuela de Música Popular de Avellaneda) in the career of Jazz Guitar in 2020.

I work as a sessionist, I musicalize advertisements and I also play in my own projects with original music.
I can record electric, acoustic and nylon guitars. I have different amp simulators and a variety of sounds to choose the one that best suits your project.

Ask me anything you need to know before we start working, hopefully we can make music together! Click the green button to contact me.

Send me an email through 'Contact' button above and I'll get back to you asap.

Interview with Fermín Aguirre

  1. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  2. A: I tend to be very detailed or self-critical in certain creative situations and spend a lot of time on certain sections or arrangements. Over time I've learned that sometimes you don't have to overthink certain ideas, but rather let them flow and that sometimes they can appear in takes where you are more relaxed or rested.

  3. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  4. A: I mainly listen to their objectives first, what they want to aim for, reference artists, anything that helps to reach a common agreement about the work in question and to be able to start working from there. As one advances in a project I also consider important to maintain that back and forth with the client so that he/she is satisfied with the partial or final results.

  5. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  6. A: I would love to work with Gustavo Santaolalla, Argentinean producer and musician, because he was not only involved in numerous musical projects but also collaborated with music for films and video games.

  7. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  8. A: I am very proud of a project in which I participated last year, a tribute to Frida Kahlo, in which I had the pleasure of recording several guitars with improvisations, which were part of a song called "Diego". The composer and producer of that tribute was Silvio Buchmeier, from Canada.

  9. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  10. A: At the moment I am working on recording my own songs with my funk band and composing songs with a partner either for publicity or band/artist projects. Also I'm working for various online recording jobs for different parts of the world.

  11. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  12. A: I like both options. Currently I am working more in digital for practical reasons but I consider that analog has always many advantages and richness with regard to audio.

  13. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  14. A: I will work to achieve the best I can. I take this job very seriously and I love to dedicate myself to music.

  15. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  16. A: What I like most about my job is to be in contact with artists, producers and musicians of different styles and to learn many things from all of them, in order to enrich my own creations.

  17. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  18. A: It is always very useful to have references, tracks, indications before starting to record. It is a fundamental stage to know how to approach the project.

  19. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  20. A: I have a small but equipped studio where I spend many hours recording, playing, rehearsing with different projects, listening to a lot of music and studying my instrument and recording and production in DAW (Logic Pro X). I have to record a Fender Stratocaster, a Gibson Les Paul ES- 135 Special Edition, a Yamaha acoustic guitar, a nylon guitar and a UAD Apollo Twin Duo interface. I also have a variety of plugins (Waves, Plugin Alliance, Izootope, Black Rooster, Universal Audio, Valhalla) and two amplifiers (Fender Champion 40w and a Fender Hot Rod Deville)

  21. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  22. A: My first approach to life as a professional musician was playing live and teaching music and guitar lessons. I have been playing since I was 11 years old, now I am 26. During the pandemic I became very interested in recording and took advantage of that time to learn how to record better and to take advantage of opportunities to work through the internet.

  23. Q: How would you describe your style?

  24. A: Restless, demanding and very much at ease with my profession.

  25. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  26. A: Always prioritize what the customer expects from your song or idea.

  27. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  28. A: I generally work on projects related to funk, soul, jazz, instrumental compositions, although I am also very interested in arranging songs, soundtracks, commercials...

  29. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  30. A: I have always enjoyed improvisation in different styles (e.g. jazz, funk, soul, bossa, bolero, argentinian music such as tango). I can contribute new ideas to your song from my harmonic and melodic knowledge.

  31. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  32. A: Warm guitars in general, either with plectrum or fingers. I look for the right combination between a good audio and a good performance of the instrument.

  33. Q: What's your typical work process?

  34. A: first I listen to the song many times, I try to see what emotions it generates in me, and based on what the client has asked me to do, I will try to contribute with my playing the best possible for the project.

  35. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  36. A: I am inspired by the constant work. Always try to be creative and trying to learn something new in each process, not only from the musical but also from the human side.

  37. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  38. A: First of all I listen to what the client proposes, his project, his ideas and expectations. I try to get into the essence of the song/composition and start testing ideas from the place I can contribute. Harmonies, melodic improvisations, testing different types of audio, plugins, but above all always privileging the musical aspect and what the client needs. I usually work in a fluid and responsible way.
