Working with Tim is so much fun and his productions sound SO good!! I've been impressed every time I hear him create something we talked about, and he knows how to get that professional sound we all want. He is very approachable and easily interprets what I'm asking for into awesome tracks. And impressive quick turnaround too. He creates a great open space for ideas to flow and I can't recommend him enough. I am thrilled to keep working with him!

I have had the pleasure of working with Tim on a number of projects now, and each time it has been a hugely enjoyable experience. Tim is a very gifted musician and producer who is both professional and easy to work with. He is quick to bring fresh ideas to the table yet always willing to listen to feedback and change things as necessary. I look forward to working with him again in the future.

Interview with Attention Hog Songs

  1. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  2. A: I think breaking down and understanding what makes a genre what. That helps me deliver the end result that a client wants when they have something they are chasing.

  3. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  4. A: I had the pleasure of working on the song "Good Time by Nico Moon feat. Shaggy" that is out on Sony.

  5. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  6. A: Close to finishing an EDM EP for an artist project.

  7. Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

  8. A: Usually about price and turnaround time. Both vary, but I tend to work very quickly. I remember waiting forever to hear from a producer and I don't want to make others feel the same way. I want a client to feel like they are my priority because they are.

  9. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  10. A: Not really sure, maybe that we do things randomly or just on inspiration. There is a lot of homework especially in production to fit in specific genres or styles. Studying structure and sound selection/instrumentation is a big part of the process.

  11. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  12. A: What are your goals? What do you love about the music you like?

  13. Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?

  14. A: BoomFox Productions - really amazing producer and person.

  15. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  16. A: Both. Each brings it's own qualities to the table.

  17. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  18. A: On projects I choose to work on I am all in. I will chase down any lead or turn over any rock to make sure the end product is something you are proud to press play on.

  19. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  20. A: Meeting new people and being inspired by how much talent is out there.

  21. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  22. A: Trust your gut and do what is best for your project because you and your music matter.

  23. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  24. A: Laptop, Acoustic Guitar, Microphone, UAD Apollo and Headphones. Everything I need to make music.

  25. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  26. A: I've been doing this a while. I started out as Viola player and played in the Youth Symphony. I switched to guitar and became a session guitar player and clinician. Through various bands I was in I was introduced to production and songwriting and haven't looked back since.

  27. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  28. A: I'm always learning so this will change constantly. Right now, side-chain compression and all of it's uses. Not just for the kick and bass or pumping effect. It is a great way to create interaction and movement between parts in a production.

  29. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  30. A: I care. I want the client I'm working with to feel I care about their art as much as they do. I consider it a privilege and honor when someone trusts me to bring their song to life. I want them to feel that the energy they put into creating it is reciprocated by me.

  31. Q: How would you describe your style?

  32. A: As a songwriter myself, I tend to be a song centric producer. My job is to make the artist and song shine as much as possible. Support the song.

  33. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  34. A: There are so many, I suppose this answer will change daily. Right now Dua Lipa.

  35. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  36. A: Pop, Country, EDM and Alternative.

  37. Q: What's your typical work process?

  38. A: If at all possible I like to get to know the client and what drives them, what their goals are, and who influences them. If they have a work-tape to share and/or reference tracks I like to study them to make sure I understand the vision they have. After that I start production.

  39. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  40. A: I use Pro Tools and Ableton Live as my DAW's. Universal Audio Apollo x6 as my interface. Plugins are Universal Audio, Fab Filter, Waves, iZotope and Plugin Alliance.

  41. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  42. A: Max Martin, I love his melodies and attention to detail. Jay Joyce, the sound of the records that he makes are amazing. Greg Kurstin, Ali Tamposi, Ryan Tedder

  43. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  44. A: Most my production work has been building tracks for songwriters/artists for their songs.
