Interview with Nacho Vasko
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: both are tools and have their specific and particular uses, the most important thing is not the process but a good interpretation!
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: I will put all my dedication in each project
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: confuse the processes in the production stages of a song and think that one is more or less important than another: pre-production, production, editing, mixing, mastering. They are all equally important to achieve a good result!
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: What meaning does this song have for you? Which artists inspire you the most? What kind of people do you think could be your audience?
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: If you are looking for a person who respects your art and helps you enhance it, you will not regret it.
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: Guitar , precision bass , sm 58 mic, apogee ensemble and my macbook haha
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I have experience in working with renowned local engineers and producers and a vast knowledge and handling of different DAWS (Protools, Logic, Ableton Live). I believe in teamwork. I am passionate about audio editing, as a musician I interpret the foundation of various styles from Latin or reggae, to hard rock, folk or jazz. If necessary, edit manually, or grid it until reaching the expected cohesion. Or in the best of cases, if the style warrants it, select the best shot and keep it as natural as possible. I handle with precision different tuners such as Melodyne, Waves tune, Antares Auto tune according to the artistic intention that helps the interpretation that is somewhat subtle or stands out as an effect. I am known for being methodical and orderly, using color codes and shortcuts to maintain focus. I am used to working under technical demands and responding to established deadlines. I have no problem working overtime or working after hours, my priority is to be able to achieve the best results and respond to the demands of the producer. My main references are: Andrés Mayo (mastering engineer) Cachorro López (producer, mixing and mastering engineer) Eduardo Bergallo (Soda Stereo mixing and mastering engineer) Mario Breuer (mixing and mastering engineer). Internationals: Geoff Emerick, Bruce Swedien, Andy Wallace and Bob Kats. About me: Musician, composer, producer, mixing and mastering technician, fond of electronics applied to music. From 2005 at the age of 15 I discovered my passion for sound taking my first steps as an assistant and itinerant operator in the First Baptist Church of Rosario, and over the years I developed as a musician / producer and sound operator for different independent bands in the city of Rosario. (D.N.I., Shelby Reggae, Vibrativa, Worse than you, Jerusalen Paradise, Jet Lag, Laura Molina, L.E.O.N., Vero Del Vecchio) Currently working as a live operator of P.A and monitors, recording and mixing technician as well as producing productions, mixing and mastering in my home studio "El jardincito records" located in the city of Rosario, Argentina. Studies: • Instrumentalist at the Provincial School of Music, Electric Guitar at CEFOMAA and Rosario Municipal School of Music. • Certification in Dante Level 1 and 2 protocols. A: When I consider it necessary, I like to work on mixing and mastering starting from production to understand the concept and the vibes that the artist wants to capture and help enhance their virtues. When mixing I like consoles, I have the possibility of working in a studio with an old Neve console from the 70's that really adds up in certain productions. For mastering I have my own mastering studio that is correctly treated acoustically, where my main monitors are Genelec 8040B.
