Interview with Gregory Kropf
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: J Balvin ! I'd love to do latino music, there are so many sounds to explore that we don't use that much. And singing in english over reaggeton just isn't cool.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: boring sound ? -> distortion, pitch shift & reverse
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: Mixing programmed drums and vocals.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: Interest, different sounds, clarity, energy and warmth.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: Having an idea, searching for the sound I'm looking for or I'll chop a sample of a song I like until it doesn't sound like anything I've ever heard. After that I'll play around with synths and samples until I have a strong base for a song. Then I'll start arranging and mixing. When I get the vocals and have the whole song together, I can do the final polishing.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: I'm 100% ITB through my Apollo. I work with Logic X, for producing I'll mostly use 3rd partly plug-ins though.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: Kendrick Lamar and his producers. Pharell Williams, Kanye West and Major Lazer.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: Record vocals and produce songs (mostly hiphop)
