I am a human Mix Engineer and Record Finisher with GRAMMY-nominated releases, platinum certifications, and over 5 billion streams. I do mostly pop, alt, rock, singer-songwriter, and adjacent styles, but I enjoy working on all genres. I strive to help artists and producers make impactful, beautiful, and successful records they're really proud of.
The goal is always the same, whether the project is indie or label: Make the song feel polished, competitive, and true to the artist. Make something that matters.
In addition to technical training, and an understanding of what actually works commercially, I bring a producer/songwriter’s perspective to your tracks, a vocal engineer’s attention to capturing emotion in the DAW, and a deep respect for your individuality and taste.
I thrive on finding what to boldly feature, what to enhance or get out of the way, what to leave alone, and how to make the vision feel purposeful & intentional. This is how I make radio-ready, playlist-friendly mixes, while also protecting and honoring what makes them unique and distinct.
My process is intentionally collaborative. I value openness, I like to chat about music, mixing, your goals and your taste, and I want to get to know you. I always hope I can be honest with my collaborators and that they’ll be honest with me.
I have no strict cap on revisions- my goal is for you to be entirely proud of the work. If we don’t get there, the project isn’t a success to me. First mixes are typically delivered within 5-7 business days. Every mix includes a full deliverables package w/ alternates & stems. If your timeline is flexible, I can sometimes build a custom quote. check_circleVerifiedJust asked for some minor changes on a completed project. Everything went well, Thanks!
check_circleVerifiedScott was awesome to work with and was able to provide great ideas and language through the process to achieve a great mix. He is truly someone to help bring your project over the finish line with great communication throughout the entire process. If you're in the hunt for someone who will as invested in your record as you, add Scott to your team.
check_circleVerifiedThis was my first time getting a true professional mix. I knew I wanted a pro to work on my track to bring out the full potential of the song. Working with Scott tuned my song to a quality of sound I knew I wanted but couldn't achieve on my own. He also brought out the character of the song in such a way that makes it absolutely kick derriere. At least to my ears! Thanks and I hope to work together again!
Most excellent work!!
check_circleVerifiedScott is not only an exceptional producer and engineer, but also a natural mentor.
He brings honesty, insight, and encouragement to every moment. In just one hour, I learned more from him than I have in a year of tutorials. His ability to break down complex ideas with clarity and care made a huge impact on me. Scott’s attention to detail, deep knowledge, and generosity in sharing it all make him truly one of a kind. I can’t recommend him enough.
check_circleVerifiedScott was a delight to get to know and work with. He’s super down to earth, kind, knowledgeable and patient. I appreciated his honest advice and insights. Hope to work with him again in the future!
check_circleVerifiedScott REALLY get's the vision, listens attentively and his communication is on point. He smashed both mixes out the park, despite them being somewhat challenging projects. Despite this, he managed to bring the essence out of each record with patience, persistence and passion. Highly recommend.
check_circleVerifiedThis 2h of coaching was BY FAR the best investment made in my career. Scott was really open about all his tricks for recording and processing vocals. I had access to so much knowledge, we looked at his template together, I applied it the next day, and it worked!! My vocals sound so much better now!!! I am soooo grateful!! He not only gave me a method for recording and producing vocals, he also gave me hope I could do so in a reasonable time so I can be competitive and proficient as a producer.
check_circleVerifiedA job request turned into more of a consult, and Scott was straight to the point and offered insight I needed.
check_circleVerifiedScott provided a detailed review that helped me hear and understand some areas that can be improved. He has a very acute ear, especially on vocals, which is helpful so I can get the best vocals out of my lyrics and song. I definitely will use Scott again and highly recommend his services.
check_circleVerifiedPleased with the work Scott delivered. Good communicator, and I'm looking forward to working with him on future projects!!
Interview with Scott Thomas Robinson
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: I love the vocal production work I did for LP. LP is one of the most talented and unique singers all around the world, and it’s the type of music where I had to be very careful not to overprocess and keep the vocal sounding as natural as possible while still fitting onto a pop playlist. Lost On You was a huge success and I’m so proud of it!
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: Vocal production for Bebe Rexha & Demi Lovato, mixing for several sync projects, developing & producing a new artist, and mentoring some new producers how to finish their projects and get a foot in the door
Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?
A: Justin Gammella (producer), Zach Sorgen (vocals), Martin Cooke (mixer), and I’m always happy to make recommendations for specific projects
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: ANALOG! Of course, I use tons of modern digital tools, but it’s important to remember that every tools adds distortion, and the type of distortion that digital tools impart can add up unpleasant aliasing. It’s not very noticable on indiviaul elements, but analog sound just canot be beat! *yet
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: You will be proud of your creation!
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: Working with interesting people and helping them make something that inspires or connects listeners
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Open communcation is the most important. If you don’t feel comfortable expressing yourself and asking for the sound you want, it’s probably not a good fit.
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: My custom LA2A, MAC Opto LA3A type compressor, LYNX converters, Distressor, and Neumann monitoring setup.
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: 20 years now! I’ve been in bands, managed bands, played & taught different instruments, started labels, engineered for other producers, but ultimately always come back to finishing records and helping people finish!
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Tip of the day- use FabFilter Pro-MB in “free” band mode to control the frequency dynamics of a drum buss, trigging the bands only with the fundamentals of the kick and snare
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: Fixing the thing you overlooked, or in other words, being able to look at the big picture and make a proper plan of action
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: I always try to bring out the emotion and impact
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: Most important is communication with the client. I want to get a full understanding of their goals and then decide the best course of action from that that’s friendly to their budget but get’s a fantastic result
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: I work in two adjacent studios that I share with the producer Daylight. Both have finely tuned monitoring systems and lots of analog gear to play with, and it’s nice to be able to reference mixes in both rooms. I like to stand while I work to keep the energy up!
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: Finishing! Sometimes that means mixing, vocal production, additional production elements, or helping a client turn a demo into a finished record.
