Rock Guitarist and Classical Pianist with a Songwriting Major and a Production Minor from Berklee College of Music. I have 20+ years of performance experience including festivals, NPR Tiny Desk, and prestigious classical music events such as a masterclass with Lang Lang when I was younger.
Hi,
My name is Jason Iyama, and I'm a multi instrumentalist from Los Angeles who specializes in Guitar, Piano, Songwriting and Production.
A little about myself...
I grew up playing classical piano since the age of three, and began learning guitar around the age of ten, where I focused more on rock and pop genres. I studied classical piano and jazz guitar at the Colburn School of Music in Los Angeles, and was then accepted into the Berklee College of Music where I majored in Songwriting and Music Production while specializing in rock guitar.
Since graduating, I have been fortunate enough to play guitar with Mick Jenkins for venues such as Smokers Club Festival, Afro Punk Festival, NPR Tiny Desk, and Genius Open Mics.
If you would like to hear some of my original work besides the demos here, I release music under two names: Rock music under "Jason Iyama" and electronic under the name "JSN".
Guitar: I can play almost any genre, but my strongest are hard rock, pop, blues, jazz, funk, hip hop, and rnb.
Piano: I can play almost any genre, but my strongest are classical, rock, pop. I also have a ROLI MPE controller.
Songwriting: I mostly write rock and pop genres.
Production: I mostly produce rock, pop, and electronic genres. I am knowledgable with plugins / sound design.
I also have perfect pitch and am good at learning songs. I would love to work with you!

Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: My debut rock EP and my debut electronic Album
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: I try to get the best out of both worlds. For example I love the tone that a real tube amp can bring, but I also use plugins such as Fab Filter Bundle or Valhalla reverbs to enhance sounds
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: I promise to deliver the best guitar or piano performance that I can
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: I love creating music I'm proud of
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: I would like to know more about the song, what it is about / what sort of feelings you want to evoke and try to nail what would be the best performance I can contribute to your song, wether it is something pretty or ugly, clean or dirty, fancy or minimal.
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Listen to as many different options and don't be afraid to ask questions especially with someone you don't know personally. And don't be afraid to be 100% direct and honest.
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: My laptop, my guitar, my midi keyboard, a microphone/interface and a wifi router
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I've been playing piano since I was three and guitar since I was ten. I didn't get into production / songwriting until a bit later but have been doing it every day since I started.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: Jimmy Page, I wish somehow I could've met Eddie, Skrillex, and Fred Again..
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Try to make sure every instrument or sound you add or every tweak you make has a reason behind it. And also volume levels. You would be surprised how many problems gain staging fixes.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: Rock and electronic, as they are the two types of music I release
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: I'm good at putting the song first. I'd rather play a really no guitar solo if it sounds better then a fancy one where I can show off.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: Jimmy Page, Eddie Van Halen, Steve Vai, a lot of guitar greats. My favorite bands are Guns n Roses and Muse. Seeing any big crowd at a show inspires me. Producing, Skrillex, Fred Again, Martin Garrix to name a few.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: Guitar recordings, and keyboard recordings. Mostly midi and not recorded piano. I also produce for a lot.
