Hello! My name is Kyle and I am a session drummer, producer, and engineer based out of Nashville, TN.
I will record high quality drum tracks from my home studio for your song! All I need is an mp3 or wav of your song with any instruction regarding parts & tones and I will deliver tracks to you within a 1-3 days! Recording to a metronome is preferred, but if not I will still play my best to bring your song to the next level! I typically start with 2-3 takes of a song and then can provide revisions should we need them. I play on many sessions and tour professionally. I have appeared on Good Morning America, The TODAY show, CMT's Hot 20 Countdown, Pickler and Ben, and many more.

check_circleVerifiedFrom drummer to drummer, Kyle has great feel, groove, and musical instinct. He delivered multiple takes that were all usable and full of intention. Communication was smooth, delivery was quick, and the stems were organized and mix-ready. Highly recommended — I’ll definitely work with him again.
check_circleVerifiedAbsolute legend! Always knows what the song needs. And better than that, always delivers that, plus some that you didn't know it needed in the first place.
check_circleVerifiedWorking with Kyle was an absolute pleasure. His playing brought the perfect energy and groove to the song — tight, dynamic, and full of feel. He clearly put a lot of thought and care into every detail. The communication was fast, clear, and collaborative throughout, and the drum recording quality was top-notch — mix-ready right out of the box.
Kyle not only nailed the vibe I had in mind but elevated the track beyond what I expected. I can’t wait to work with him again. Highly recommended!
check_circleVerifiedGreat as always! Super flexible and versatile and can work through different types of notes easily
check_circleVerifiedWhat else can I say other than Kyle is phenomenal at all aspects of drumming, engineering, serving the song, etc. He can let it rip when you need him to, but he can sit back in a pocket and groove like crazy. Always tasteful and then open to notes/direction in a timely manner as well.
check_circleVerifiedKyle exceeded my expectations -- again -- and really nailed the flavor of the song! Tasteful fills and great sound quality. Like butter!!!
check_circleVerifiedAmazing drummer, great communication, and perfect file delivery. Couldn't ask for more!
check_circleVerifiedKyle absolutely nailed it again! He works quick and he totally nails the vision EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. Seriously, he's amazing to work with and you will never be disappointed by his work! He's the real deal and you need a guy like him in your corner if you're gonna get your projects to that next level!
check_circleVerifiedKyle's tones are so crazy good, it's almost like you get that pristine consistency of samples, but you get to retain that human element of slight variation, touch, feel that I really value, and I feel like is being lost in modern production.
check_circleVerifiedKyle and I do so much pop country, but there's sometimes I throw songs his way that are a little outside the box. And I almost love it even more when we can put our heads together and be a little "weird" with the sounds/tones we're going after. He always finds the right vibe for the track and has yet to fail me in that regard.
check_circleVerifiedThis man is a literal machine! Any style, any vibe, he's not only proficient but masterful and can elevate it to a place you wouldn't have thought of. 10/10 recommend.
check_circleVerifiedKyle is a great guy and an EVEN BETTER DRUMMER! Everything is so quick and professional, and that's why I keep coming back to use him every time! Love working with this guy, and I promise you will too! 10/10 I DEFINITELY RECOMMEND!!!
check_circleVerifiedAbsolute beast behind the kit. But also in everything else that matters - engineering, capturing a feeling, creativity, openness to ideas/direction, etc. The goat
check_circleVerifiedMan is just dialed in. Next level drummer and professional. Fantastic tones captured masterfully every time.
check_circleVerifiedKyle is my go to drummer every time. Insanely talented!!!
check_circleVerifiedKyle is a special talent and an even better dude and person to work with. Love having his drums on a big chunk of the tunes I produce. Always elevates the product.
check_circleVerifiedABSOLUTLEY KILLER DRUMMER!!! Kyle is hands down the best drummer I've worked with on this platform as well as the most talented! When I tell you he can play everything, I really mean EVERYTHING and ANYTHING haha! Such a great guy and he's always got such a quick turn around for his projects! He's our go-to guy for a reason! WORK WITH THIS MAN!
check_circleVerifiedKyle has been my go to remote drummer for several years now - he's the best!
check_circleVerifiedA brilliant musician with boundless possibilities, truly inspiring! Your talent lights up the world!
check_circleVerifiedAlways nails it perfectly. Always down to go the extra mile. Please let Kyle elevate your music!
Interview with Kyle May
Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?
A: I love working with Zachariah Witcher on bass. I've also recommended Peter Ferguson on guitar to countless folks who only have great things to say about him. I also think Frank Maroney is a great songwriter and producer who turns out fantastic songs.
Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A: They ask how many tracks they'll get. Its typically around 12-16 tracks. I have a mic or 2 on every drum, 2 pairs of overheads in different configurations as well as room mics and I'll print my drum bus compression so they can use it if they like. I also get asked about turn around time which is typically 1-3 days.
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: Neumann KH310s, Lynx Hilo, MacbookPro, and a U87.
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I have been playing drums and producing for over a decade now. I've toured with Maddie & Tae to Billy Ray Cyrus and have cut on songs for Walker Hays, Clay Walker, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Runaway June, to name a few.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Get your mix to the best spot it can be, then treat that best mix as if you were starting from scratch and improve from there.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: Country, Rock, Singer/Songwriter, Indie
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: Communication and timeliness. Professionalism for me starts with punctuality.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: I currently have a Protools rig with all UAD, Soundtoys, Native Instrument Komplete Ultimate and WAVEs plugins. My mics include sE Electronics, Neumann, AKG, AEA, Coles, Shure, and Miktek. I have various Gretsch drum kits from a Broadkaster to a USA Custom to a Renown. I also have an assortment of snares from Craviotto, Ludwig, Gretsch, Pearl, etc.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: I'm really inspired by drummers like Aaron Sterling, Jerry Roe, Paul Mabury, Nir Z and incredible sound chaser drummers like Dan Mayo and Brody Simpson. My producer inspirations are Busbee, Jay Joyce, and Dann Huff.
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: Both. No explanation. This is the world we live in.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: That they'll be 100% satisfied. I can back it up too with every review and money back guarantee as well as my flexibility when it comes to revisions
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: That it's different every day.
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: I typically ask for references so that I can have a clearer understanding of their background and what they're looking for.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: My style comprises new music that I love to listen to mixed with what I grew up on from Jazz to Soul to Soft Rock.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: I've loved everything Sabrina Carpenter has put out. I love the acoustic and electronic elements in her music.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: Familiarity. Artists always have an idea of what they're looking for even if they can't describe it and I try to find that reference and make it feel like it's their own.
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: I am working on sampling all of my drums. They'll be released in a package for use with Trigger, Native Instruments, Logic and ProTools samplers and many more. I'm really excited because we got to do some of it at The Tracking Room Studio in Nashville that is going to be torn down soon. It's one of the best rooms in town and I'm so grateful to have recorded so many amazing sounds there.
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: I'm cutting drums on a few projects that I recorded from my home studio and it'll be exciting to hear them on the radio.
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Just be as clear and concise as possible in terms of what you need from me! I'm very flexible and always willing to work until you're happy.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: I'll typically import the files from the producer and start to map the song out in ProTools. Then I'll look at the temp drum track and have a listen to the references that may have been sent along with the song. After that, I'll begin the kit, snare, and cymbal selection along with any other mic or gear changes that need to be made. I'll typically cut a couple of takes and then send them over for approval. Once everything is finished, I'll print and export files to send the client!
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: My most common work is recording drums on songs for clients.
