Another song - another ridiculously amazing job. Vocals on point. I almost don't want to recommend Beth, because I want to keep her work all to myself!!! She created exactly what our brief was and exceeded our expectations again - and delivered it two days earlier than agreed. We will be back!
Wow wow wow. This is the fourth time we have hired Beth and every time she is such a sweetheart. She nailed the brief again and is always so generous with her communication, attention to detail and checking we are happy with her work. Also she delivered it in less than 24 hours even though we were expecting 3 days. Oh and the extra harmonies and counter melodies she contributed really lifted the song into a new dimension we didnt even consider. Will never tire of her voice A++++++
Second time using Beth, as usual fast turn around and absolutely smashes the vocals. Such a pleasure working with you Beth, thanks again.
Turn around time from request to delivery was under 2 hours, which is pretty remarkable! Beth saved the day after our session singer did a no show. She has a gorgeous voice and went above and beyond to ensure she was delivering what we wanted. I will be using her again for sure.
I love Beth's voice, total professional in every sense and not only that, she is one of the best top liners I know. She has this knack of finding the most catchy melodies and hooks, great fun to work with. Always delivers. 1000% recommend.
Wonderful voice , can get what you need easily in a short time , highly recommended!
A proper vocalist and artist. 10/10 as always...lost count of the projects I've done with Beth - well over twenty songs and I have never once been disappointed, vocals are always so beautiful and she delivers everything so quickly - way ahead of agreed deadlines. You'd be an idiot to not book her, I personally tip her on top of her basic rate because as I tell her each time I book her I think she should be charging double what she is.
We've worked with Beth since 2015. Our go to top liner and vocalist, powerful voice and always brings so much to soul and passion to projects, always nails it. A true Singer and professional. Steven Thomas
Beth's been coming to Bandhouse - my studio in Peckham for over 6 years originally as a session singer for our pop/dance track pitches, but over the last few years she's been toplining for me as well. Beth's voice absolutely sets her apart, she's in the top percent for sure and she writes a killer hook too. She's a lot of fun to work with and always professional - would throughly recommend her to others.
Interview with Beth Mills
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: I spent about 3 months recording 500 phrases on every single note in my 5 octave range and a tech company has now got a digital copy of my voice. It's not the same as having a live singer, but it's really clever tech and great for draft demos etc.
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: What is your turnaround time ? What is the song for, is it a demo for pitching or a song intended for release ? What is the vocal style, are there any reference artists you want me to emulate ? Is there a deeper meaning / emotion / feel that needs to be portrayed ?
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: I'd say to be as clear as you can with your requirements from the offset. What are the dynamics for each section of the song ? Where do you want softness and where do you want power ? The more detail I have the more closely I can meet your expectations. I would also add, please don't be deflated if I decline a job, not every single project is going to be the right creative fit, there may be another vocalist more suited to your project, if I decline a job I have your best interests in mind.
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I've been singing and writing since I was a kid, and working professionally in the music industry for 10+ years now. I moved to London as soon as I hit 18 and studied Music Performance and Production at LCCM, I've been working as as Session Singer, Writer, and Artist ever since.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Don't try to recreate other people's sound. Find your own sound.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: I usually work on commercial pop, dance tracks features and some country and rnb.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: I have a 5 octave range, with light soft textures and a strong mix/belt which means I have a versatility which works across most genres. Technicalities aside though, I still feel my ability to connect to a song and the client's intentions is my best attribute. I strive to create emotion, depth and meaning, you could be the most technically gifted singer alive but if you can't tell a story or make people feel something, you aren't doing it right.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: Way more than 10,000 hours that's for sure! I'm pretty big on putting out as much good into the world as possible, and music is an incredible vessel to do that with. I will usually try and establish if the client has a deeper meaning in the song, what's the intention behind it ? How do they want people to feel when they listen to it ? Once we're on the same page I'll bring that energy to the song.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: Typically a client will send me a demo, with lyrics and a rough vocal take for me to recreate. Alongside this they will send stylistic references, songs, and example artists - giving me as much information as possible as to how they want me to sound on the recording. For songwriting / toplining and lyrics the process can vary depending on what the client wants and how far along they are in their writing process.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: My studio set up is: iMac, Logic Pro X studio software, Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 Audio Interface and Shure SM7B Cardioid condenser microphone.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: Vocally - Billie Eilish, the tone, texture, expression and depth - especially at her age is incredible. Other Musicians who inspire me are those with purpose and mission, those who value kindness, love and putting out something meaningful - rather than it being purely a numbers/money/ fame game.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: Most frequently clients hire me to record lead vocals, as well as additional backing vocals and harmonies. I am also hired as a top liner, lyricist and songwriter.
