High-end mixing & mastering with a deliberate, individual approach. No generic sound. I craft unique sonic identities for jazz, alternative, hip-hop, sophisticated electronic music or techno. For artists who are not afraid of bold, creative processing and want a deep, uncompromising sound that stands out.
I am a mixing/mastering engineer and music producer with over 20 years of deep sonic exploration across jazz, independent hip-hop, avant-garde electronics, and techno. My approach is highly individual, deliberate, and focused on crafting a unique sonic identity rather than following generic, over-compressed industry trends. As a producer and sound artist, I understand music from the inside out. I’ve shaped the sonic character of around 100 albums globally ; my credits include mixing EABS – "Repetitions (Letters to Krzysztof Komeda)" , Levitation Orchestra – "Inexpressible Infinity", Cykada – "Cykada", and Włodi ("Anorak" / "HHULTRAS") —which represent just a small fraction of my catalog. Beyond the mixing desk, I am an active composer and founder of acclaimed projects like kIRk and Sarmacja. My work has been praised by figures like Michael Gira (Swans) and Nils Petter Molvær. Recently, I fully produced the deep, traditional-meets-modern album "Canes of Karabakh". I have my own musical style and a distinct philosophy on sound. My work is never "transparent" or invisible. It resonates deeply with certain artists who hear it and say, "This is exactly what I've been looking for"—while it might not be for everyone. I don't do generic audio engineering. The best way to understand my sonic worldview is to listen to my works.

Endorse Pawel Bartnik7 Reviews

Paweł mixed three albums by artists from our label, Astigmatic Records (EABS – Repetitions (Letters To Krzysztof Komeda), Levitation Orchestra – Inexpressible Infinity, and Cykada – Cykada). On top of that, he mastered several of our releases (including Jaubi – Nafs At Peace and Naphta – Naphta and The Shamans). Paweł thrives in sophisticated, genre-defying music. He’s a true professional.

I worked with Paweł on two of my albums, and I can wholeheartedly recommend him to any artist. He has an excellent instinct for understanding the creator's vision and translating it into the final mix. Thanks to his professionalism and expertise, the music gains both clarity and impact. Another of Paweł's strengths is his openness to feedback and his ability to find the perfect balance when shaping the sound. I highly recommend him!

"HHULTRAS" (by Włodi) was mixed and mastered for the most part by Paweł and produced by me. The project was released by Def Jam Poland and was nominated for "Fryderyki" in 2024. "Eighty seven" (by Hedora) made with Paweł Bartnik behind the mixing board, also brought me attention and was heavily critically acclaimed. I have worked with Paweł on some of my biggest tracks & albums, as a producer and solo act (Ńemy). Personally I consider Paweł as a top tier sound engineer on a worldwide level. The guy does not miss.

Paweł has been always my first sound engineer of choice since the first release I curated in 2017. He then contributed to many releases on my Istotne Nagr. label, providing the top-quality mastering for both digital and physical versions (cassettes). I've always trusted his skills especially when it came to mastering large 20+ track compilations. He was always able to make it sound very coherent, even having sonically very different tracks as inputs.

Paweł is one of the most professional artists I have ever came across in my artistic experience. His focus and work ethics are extraordinary, while focus on making the vision come true goes way beyond reaching the finish line.
I have been working with Paweł both as a co-producer and mix/mastering engineer. We've shared the same stage, performed together and shared experience when working on individual projects. The highest endorsement is that his experience and support helped me grow in my professional career and I entirely trust his experience in both technical and creative areas.

I had the pleasure of working with Paweł Bartnik on album ,,Bisz-Kosa - Blady Krol".
The final result speaks for itself: the album was debuting at #1 on the Official Polish Sales Chart (OLiS) and competing directly with the biggest names in the industry.
Paweł is a master of audio engineering, combining empathy, patience, and exceptional precision resulting in mixes that are both technically flawless and emotionally complete. I strongly recommend him to any artist looking for the highest level of quality and dedication.
Interview with Pawel Bartnik
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: I focus on creating a punchy, cohesive sound that respects the heritage of the music but delivers the weight, clarity, and dimensions demanded by today's contemporary landscape.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Whether you are producing, mixing, or mastering, always work in short, focused intervals and take regular breaks. Your brain and ears fatigue much faster than you realize. If you've been staring at the same loop for hours, step away from the desk, clear your head, and come back with fresh ears.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: primarily work with independent, genre-bending music that floats between distinct styles. My expertise covers high-end jazz, soul, and their derivatives, but I am equally at home with underground club music, sophisticated electronics, and raw, authentic hip-hop. Having a deep roots background, I intimately understand reggae and dub, alongside indie rock, punk, and post-punk aesthetics. I also frequently produce and mix folk and world music. That being said, my priority is always the artistic integrity of your project. If I feel that I do not deeply connect with or understand your specific musical convention, I will always refuse the project rather than deliver a generic result.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: My strongest skill is "sonic empathy"—the ability to deeply understand and connect with the artist's true intent, emotion, and the underlying message of their work. Artists appreciate working with me because I provide a collaborative space where they can speak entirely in their own language—whether it’s abstract, colorful, poetic, or concise. I will never force you into strict technical jargon. At the end of the day, it is always about the artist and their creation, not my engineering ego.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: ing a deep commitment to finding the song's true emotional core and artistic intent. I am not the kind of engineer who tries to mimic current radio trends or force every track into a generic, hyper-compressed modern mold. Instead, I bring a timeless, character-driven sonic aesthetic that enhances the unique DNA of your music. Whether it requires raw grit, pristine depth, or unexpected analog textures, my focus is to give your track an organic weight and an individual voice that will stand the test of time.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: My studio is a highly advanced hybrid digital-analog system. Having worked with an immense amount of high-end audio hardware over the past 20 years, I’ve long passed the phase of fetishizing gear. Gear is just a tool; the ears and intention are what matter.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: The most common scenario is when independent artists, as well as well-known, established names, come to me because they are looking for a shift in their sound. They are often stepping out of their comfort zones and want something distinctly different from what they’ve done in the past
