Interview with Marze
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: Digital. Recall-ability and control. I like the romance and art of having analog gear and controls in front of me, but end of the day I get better results in the digital domain.
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: this is my favorite topic. "A producer only creates the ‘background music’ for an album.” I can tell you how many times I get asked "what song did you take the vocals from?" As a producer, we make everything and everything for an entire song from Production, Composition, Vocal and Sound Mixing. We are the most important aspect of a song.
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: Normal questions I ask are: - Do you have a deadline? - What is your budget? - Do you have a vision or reference track I could listen to?
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: I have two: 1. Pick and choose a provider that has the same taste and vision as you. this will make sure your track can have the best chance to sound how you want it. 2. Make sure your songs/production are good. No amount of mixing can make a bad song a good one. To quote a friend "I can't polish a turd, but I can at least remove the smell".
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: A bunch of gallons filled with gasoline, a generator to generate electricity, my laptop, my MIDI controller and my headphones. Can you imagine how much creative you can have there?
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I started to focus on making music 5 years ago on a almost broken laptop. I learned everything that came from basic production to how to mix it well. Once I had that knowledge, I started to work and collaborate with artist around the world.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: Very emotional (Let's cry and sing on top of our lungs yet dance to it) type of vibe
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: one of the many artist I would love to work with is Said The Sky. He is not only such an amazing producer but he puts a lot of feeling into all his music and that's something that resonance with me.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Trust your taste. In other words, don’t second guess yourself. Make something you like to make and don't worry about what other producers might say. The only thing you need to take feedback from is the production, not creativity process.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: I usually have projects on the genre of Future Bass, Commercial Pop, Film music or theater but I have also worked on downtempo, chill house, house music and future house.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: I have a solid work ethic. When I'm working on a project, I don't just want to meet deadlines. Rather, I prefer to complete the project well ahead of schedule, I'm also a perfectionist so on every project I work with I will do my very best to make it PERFECT!
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: I always strive to bring a professional yet personalized touch to the song.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: I always start my work process by listing what I have for the day. I clean and organize everything in my studio and turn on some candles (very important for creativity flow).
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: DAW and Studio Gear FL Studio, Samson Resolv SE Monitors, iRig 37 PRO, Focusrite Audio Interface.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: I have had so many producers inspire me over the years but the one that made me pursue music was Kygo. Then I leaned more towards Illenium, Said The Sky, and Dabin
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: I often have artist trust me to mix their tracks and/or produce something better with their original ideas.
