Matheus Abner on SoundBetter

My name is Matheus, I've been a professional trombonist for 7 years, I played in different bands and different styles and I am currently studying Music at the University of São Paulo, Bachelor of Trombone.

I had experiences as a score arranger for wind groups and experiences with different musical genres such as: Funk, pop, jazz, soul, rap, raggae, samba, choro, bossa and classical music. One of my greatest works is the recording of the album "Still behind the sunset" made in Salvador - BA in honor of the great reference of Afro-Brazilian music Lazzo Matumbi, the album has the participation of several renowned artistar of Brazilian music.

If you want to record the wind trio and don't have the arrangement, we can talk because, I can write the scores and also record the three voices for your project to happen.

My recording settings:

Conn 88HCL Trombone - with mute option

Tremendously creative and intuitive, can easily cope with any brass section and also do arrangements in real time. Flerting from Classical to popular music, he can easily adapt him self in any genre and type of music. I would say it's a big mistake to keep him out of your project.

Interview with Matheus Abner

  1. Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?

  2. A: my recommendations are: - bass (Leo Cappi) - battery (Ricardo Bovo)

  3. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  4. A: Definitely my trombone, my ukulele, a tuba, a trumpet and a euphonium. Since there's no energy on an island, acoustic instruments would keep me pretty busy.

  5. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  6. A: I started on the trombone in 2003 when I was 8 years old, my father is also a musician so I inherited this talent from him. I honed my skills in a music teaching project known as the Guri project. When I finished high school I started my musical studies at USP (University of São Paulo). In the meantime I played in several orchestras and participated in smaller groups of some friends.

  7. Q: How would you describe your style?

  8. A: Eclectic and insightful I top any style that is proposed to me

  9. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  10. A: My dream is to be part of a Beyoncé song

  11. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  12. A: I'm not the best producer on this platform but I believe a valid tip is to master your equipment.

  13. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  14. A: I usually work with pop, samba, bossa and blues music sometimes.

  15. Q: What's your typical work process?

  16. A: I usually focus on what I need to play, if I already have a line created I try to articulate it in a clean and coherent way.

  17. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  18. A: I use an audio interface and a dynamic microphone

  19. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  20. A: Among all my skills, one of the ones I am most proud of is precision and excellence in writing scores. Because it is a differential to set up a wind nip project

  21. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  22. A: When I start a project I try to take to him all my experience that I gathered in my journey and I try to escape from cliches, because, I want to present ideas of new and aesthetically attractive musical motives

  23. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  24. A: I get a lot of inspiration from Trombone Shorty for its versatility in playing various instruments as well as being the basis for my sonority on the trombone

  25. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  26. A: Well, I am usually responsible for assembling the trio of woodwinds for different projects. And the trio is usually composed of trombones (eu), trumpet, tenor and / or alto sax. I harmonize the phrases we are going to execute and compose some that have not been created yet.
