Leo is an extremely talented musician and I am very lucky to have been able to play with him. Being a drummer myself, I can say it feels great to find a bassist who you can connect with and feel comfortable enough to let loose and improvise while knowing that he's gonna keep the groove reeeal tight. Highly recommend working with him, you will not be disappointed at all :)

Interview with Leo Cappi

  1. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  2. A: At the moment, in addition to some freelances, I am acting as bassist and arranger for the album "Ainda atrás do pôr do sol", a re-recording and re-conception of the renowned album "Atrás do pôr do sol" by the Bahian singer and composer Lazzo Matumbi, a very important figure in affirmation and aesthetic construction of the black people of Bahia. The disc will feature important artists from the current Brazilian pop scene and should be released in early 2021.

  3. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  4. A: I would advise you to feel free to do anything that makes you feel comfortable working remotely. I know that sometimes working at a distance brings insecurity and anxiety. I am here to bring the result you expect for your music, and also to make the process as pleasant and smooth as possible. In other words, you can send me as many messages, references or questions as needed to make you feel comfortable. I will be listening to you with great pleasure and attention.

  5. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  6. A: I always try to start from what the music needs, to create a line that fits coherently with the whole. I can add a Brazilian or Latin flavor, always according to your taste and desire.

  7. Q: What's your typical work process?

  8. A: I try, before recording, to understand as much as possible what you want for your music. That done, I will send you as soon as possible the first version, adding my feeling. If the result is not what you expected, I will repeat this process as many times as necessary, always considering your feedback and any additional material as a reference, until reaching a result that satisfies your expectations

  9. Q: How would you describe your style?

  10. A: I can provide a very mixed sound of Latin/Brazilian/African feel and the funky feel, i'd say that my bass style have a lot of influence of artists such as Richard Bona and Munir Hossn. That yould be my main sound. But i can also provide a lot of different sounds, i like to understand what you and your song want througt listen to your references and talking to you to get the best result as possible.

  11. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  12. A: I promise to be 100% committed to getting the best possible result. I am very flexible in the number of reviews and very communicative, i think that is needed to know you minimally to know what your sound looks like, and how I can contribute with it

  13. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  14. A: I have worked with many musical styles, but Brazilian music has always been present in my professional life and in my heart. Currently I work on different projects of Brazilian pop / electronic music, always using regional elements of Brazilian music.

  15. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  16. A: I love grooving. I am very familiar with different approaches to the slap technique, and I can adapt to any swing using these techniques. I am very fluent in the funk language, and in any genre of Brazilian or Latin music.
