Meredith is amazing. Not only a true professional player (and with fantastic recording quality), she works fast and is a great communicator. Though there were some chart issues on my end, she straightened it out without a hitch and delivered final results on the first delivery. I wish everyone was as professional and fun to work with!

It was a great pleasure to record these two pieces for clarinets. Meredith wrote beautifully for the clarinets, showing great understanding of style, character and timbre. Her writing for bass, e-flat and b-flat was full of personality while at times challenging but suited the instruments perfectly. She showed great patience with me and my schedule too! I’m looking forward to hearing more of her music and seeing where her career takes her. Thank you!

Interview with Meredith Moore
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: My style is my sound, with is big, warm, and smooth. But I also have a wide palette of tone colors and articulations to add character to your tracks. Great for orchestral playing but adaptable to all styles and genres
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: Jacob Collier and Peter Gabriel but if Richard Strauss was still alive I'd love for him to write me his 3rd horn concerto
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: I am also a Juilliard-trained composer and arranger. I have a very creative musical mind and know how to write well for my instrument in all styles and genres.
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: I was recently a featured soloist on the BBC/HBO documentary "Four Hours At the Capitol". Streaming on HBO Max and BBC iPlayer. In the past getting to work with Sir Paul McCartney was kinda a surreal dream come true. If you told me when I started playing the horn as a teen that I would one day record with a member of the Beatles, I never would of believed you! There are also some arrangements I've done for clients that I am very proud of. I love arranging for the horn so feel free to ask me to arrange some tracks for you!
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: This week alone I've arranged a solo for an indie rock song, recorded a video game soundtrack, recorded some tracks for a podcast jingle, and added some layers to a hip-hop song! Outside the studio, I play in the Radio City Orchestra (NYC) and the Hawaii Symphony as well as freelance around the New York City area. I am also writing a bunch of my own music and producing my own materials.
Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?
A: Peter Martin on Trumpet, has done a lot of work for me on some personal projects. Great improviser and has a huge trumpet sound. Extremely musical and energetic player. https://soundbetter.com/profiles/361908-peter-martin
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: That you'll get a track you are 100% satisfied with, even if it takes multiple takes. I usually nail it the first time though!
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: I really enjoy being in the studio and getting to write and arrange tracks
Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A: What's your budget
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: Please let me know what your budget is so I can best price for you. Please let me know the sample rate!
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: My laptop w/Logic Pro, a ribbon mic and audio interfacer, a MIDI keyboard, and obviously my horn!
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I've been playing horn professionally since 2008 when I had my first "real" big-time pro gig with the London Symphony Orchestra. I studied in London and worked in the UK and Europe for about 8 years, playing in several top orchestras, in sessions for big-budget movies, and with a few UK pop artists. I moved to NY in 2014 and began playing on Broadway. Since the move to the USA, I've had a more commercial track, and have done commercial work and Broadway shows and tours.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: It's not always necessary to double horn lines (un-like vocal tracks) but if you do, panning really helps and sounds great with the horn! If you want an orchestral horn sound, the panning to sound like a horn section sounds great.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: It really varies! I can do anything!
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: My tone, accuracy, and intonation. I take a lot of pride in my sound. I also have a very wide range and control in the extreme registers of the instrument.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: Set up the session: upload client's files into my DAW, create new tracks, check mic placement and levels, make sure the sample rate is set to what the client needs Recording: I do a couple of takes and pick the best one. I am a real perfectionist. Bounce and send to clients. Always open to notes and will do several takes to make sure the client is happy
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: I use ribbon mics (Cascade Fatheads) and I either set them up in a stereo set up or just one near my bell. I record in a very dry sound-treated room to give the client a lot of flexibility when mixing. I use a scarlet Focusrite audio interface and Logic Pro is my setup. I am looking to upgrade my gear soon, but so far what I have has suited me and my sound well!
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: Producer: Jacob Collier Composer: Richard Strauss Horn Player: Radovan Vlatkovic
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: Mostly recording horn tracks for songs in a variety of genres. At the time of the interview, I have written, arranged, and recorded tracks for pop songs, folk songs, indie rock, hip-hop, jazz, country, video games/movie/TV soundtracks as well as for contemporary classical composers
