I specialize in recording and mixing Rock and Jazz with experience in Pop, Singer/Songwriter and Indie genres. Berk was very patient with me until the end of the project and he continued revising until I was %100 satisfied. He was very helpful and even offered his support during the mastering phase after our job had finished. Thanks Berk!

Berk Kula is the most precious sound-engineer I have worked with. Sound is an art, and Kula is an artist who contributes to artists’ work more than what is expected. He knows how to bring a new angle and dimension to what has been produced which makes the artists’ work clear and qualified. I have been working with him on stage and also for my several records too. If there is a word for food as fine dining, well, here is the best description I can make for Berk Kula... What he does is fine- tuning and is exceptional!

We've been working with Berk Kula for a long time now, he's been with us live behind desk and recording and mixing my past 5 albums. I can easily say we grow and develop together. For me there's no better name for this in the country at the moment. He constantly improved himself and is an insatiable learner. A mixing engineer I'd like to work with for a lifetime. ❤️🧿

Interview with Berk Kula

  1. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  2. A: Jose Gonzalez, Fink, early Sia :), Red Hot Chili Peppers, Arctic Monkeys, Queens of the Stone Age, Alexandre Streliski and many more. Each music I was influenced by encouraged me to listen in more detail, and as I listened in detail my bond with music became organic. So it would be nice to be in the same environment as the people who created these music and to spend their creative processes with them.

  3. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  4. A: Balance.

  5. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  6. A: Through the years, I understand that every musician has a dream about the way they are hearing the music and also every song has its own dream, too. So I decided to stand at the point of balance to unite these two dreamers in a shared dream. That's why I can call myself a man of balance. I focus on bringing the music into a balance of harmony, both in the context of width and depth.

  7. Q: What's your typical work process?

  8. A: Gain Staging - Grouping - Balance - Editing and Time/Phase Correction - EQing - Compressing - Effects - Automation Generally i have used this path to work on.

  9. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  10. A: Since 2015 I have been using the Decapitator for every subgroup, always, to create unique characters that fit the song. And i use drastic eq's on the reverb busses because i like the feeling of reverb a lot but do not like to hear it so much.

  11. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  12. A: Rock, Pop and Jazz albums and gigs.

  13. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  14. A: I generally do mixing for the artists both in studio and in concerts. But when i started that job, i was an assistant in a studio where they give me a lot of editing works so i do love editing, too.

  15. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  16. A: I have a Mac Mini with an Apogee Duet interface. I use Neumann KH 120 speakers and Beyer Dynamic DT 700&800 Series headphones while mixing. From the first day to the present, I am a Pro Tools guy so i use Pro Tools 2020 as my DAW. Soundtoys, Brainworx, UAD and Waves plugins are the ones that i use while mixing.

  17. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  18. A: Tchad Blake and Rick Rubin is my favourite people in that industry. I choose Tchad Blake because he teaches me that an unusual approach is accepted as long as it serves music. I choose Rick Rubin because of his focus on the mental states of this creation and capture process.
