Interview with Balazs Katona
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: To work hard until they're happy and their music sounds amazing! We start by doing what we do best.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: The feeling that we are creating something valuable.
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: An open mind and good communication are two of the most important things.
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: My laptop for DAW. A drum pad to add rhythm to the island vibes. A Sennheiser MKH 416 for recording natural island sounds. Noise-canceling headphones—who knows what animals are out there? A satellite phone to call for help after making a killer mix from the island's natural sounds.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Silence is the greatest effect.
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: Hybrid, because then we have all the benefits.
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: There is a red button that makes everything sound good. :)
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: The questions depend on what the customer’s goals are, but I usually ask about their vision for the project, their deadline, and any reference tracks or specific sounds they have in mind.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: I am tricky and maximalist.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: I love working with dedicated artists who know what they want.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: Guitar or electronic oriented musics with following instruments e.g.: drums, bass, guitars, synthesizers, vocals.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: Stereo image, Drum mixing
