I am a Sound Designer/Composer/Producer from Southern California.

Sound Design

I've sound designed for artists such as One Ok Rock, We Came as Romans, Heartist, Courage My Love, The Art of Dying, On Being Human and Sleepwave to name a few. I can spice up your track with modern production and synths as well as effecting audio elements already tracked. You can deliver a stereo bounce or session stems and I will deliver multitracks back in desired format.

I can deliver scores for your film, video game or any other media. I've done scoring for my foreign films as well as well as video games for the Xbox360 and the Wii. Stylistically I would compare my work to artists such as Trent Reznor, Atticus Ross, Thomas Newman or Hans Zimmer. Contact for pricing for your next project!

String Arrangements
Full String arrangements for songs with top virtual instruments or for an additional cost I can facilitate a real string section recorded and multitracked. I've arranged "Heartache" from One Ok Rock, "Chasing the Sun" for On Being Human and "LaLa" from BloodTypeG.

My mixing credits include On Being Human, Truxton Mile, I Am Cassettes and many more. I can deliver high quality mixes at an affordable price.

Greg was great to work with. The sounds he produced for me were spot on, and the ideas he contributed to my track really helped me take it to another level.

Interview with Greg Johnson

Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
On Being Human is my band and I do just about everything I can on it.
What are you working on at the moment?
Producing and Co-writing the new Powerman 5000 record. Sound Designing the new Heartist EP and Mixing the new On Being Human record.
Analog or digital and why?
What's your 'promise' to your clients?
I will make sure that what you need gets done in the time you need it to get done in.
What do you like most about your job?
I get to make music all day every day.
What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
Shoot me a message! I am very open to work on anything.
If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
Macbook pro - apogee duet - good headphones - midi controller - guitar
What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
I go wherever the wind takes me, the music industry is too chaotic to be picky. I have been doing this for 12 years and it's taken me all over the world doing things I never would of expected.
How would you describe your style?
Muse meets NIN meets Ralph Vaughan Williams.
Which artist would you like to work with and why?
Any artist with a unique voice and vision.
Can you share one music production tip?
Write good songs!
What type of music do you usually work on?
Rock/Electronic/Modern film score
What's your strongest skill?
Song writing (minus lyrics) and Sound design.
What do you bring to a song?
Whatever the client needs! I have a few skills but they aren't always applicable in every scenario. Overall though I think I can strengthen melodic content, add a uniqueness to the color or timbre of the track and then wrap it up with a mix.
What's your typical work process?
I usually listen to the song then talk to the writers about their intention and goals. Then envision where the song needs to go and work your way back through all the steps that need to be taken to accomplish that.
Tell us about your studio setup.
Mac pro - Logic X - Apogee Ensemble - Manley TNT preamp - Manley Reference Cardiod - AxeFX XL Processor - Outsounds Complete Library - ThatSound Complete Library - Spectrasonics Complete Library - EastWest Complete Library and many more.
What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
I enjoy all types of music but Trent Reznor comes to mind as a revolutionary in the field of electronic music.
Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
I split the majority of my time between producing/co-writing with my clients and scoring for film/video games and commercials. I would say that I am highly specialized in rock influenced sound design, this would include any sound that isnt a part of the band that's been added to the track to give it life and color (i.e., electronics, synths, strings, etc).
