Second time working with Paul and I will definitely be going back for more!
Listens to my every wish and thought, takes them into concern but also comes with his own fresh and fantastic ideas.
He produced 2 songs for me this time and they are fantastic. Both of them being unique in their own way but in his magical way they still sound like they are from the same universe.
I could not recommend Paul enough. - check_circleVerified
Paul is an insanely brilliant musician. Not only do I envy his talent, I respect his ability to guide, direct and collaborate with surgical precision. He is both referential in his collaboration and wildly original in his production abilities - he spent the time to carefully tweak and refine the music so every minute piece of feedback was considered. I excited to work with Paul again!

Incredible producer & truly a pro! I approached Paul regarding help with production on a project I had started, as well as mixing & mastering - he did not disappoint! His instrumental additions to my track took the project to a new level! He was extremely communicative throughout the entire process. Revisions & updates were treated with the utmost care & he made sure he understood my vision & direction when making any adjustments. Truly felt like he was just as invested in my work/goal as I was.

It was a fantastic and very quick process working with Paul.
He listened to all of my thoughts, he listened and came with his own opinions on the track and created a fantastic finished product that is exactly what I wanted. I will definitely be working with him again.

Interview with Paul Coultrup
Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?
A: Absolutely! I work with industry professionals daily, and many are on SoundBetter. If I feel a project needs someone, ill happily recommend them!
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: Both!! why not?!?
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: I get to help people bring their art and visions to life. I know how intimate this can be, and am truly blessed to be able to bring joy through music.
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: As a producer, im not just someone who makes beats, I "produce" the entire product. Including beat making, songwriting, instrumentation, mixing, mastering, therapy :) collaborating, or even finding other collaborators! Whatever needs to happen to bring the project to life, I make it happen.
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: What are your goals? What are your influences / specific song references? What is your workflow, how do you usually approach music creation? What do you hope to achieve, and how can I help?
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Be prepared! Know what you want, and let us know! The more info we have the better we can serve you.
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: My Laptop with Ableton, A Mic, A Drum Kit, A Piano, And a Guitar! (and some analog synths) sure its more than 5, but ill hide the laptop or something.
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I started as young music fanatic about 20 years ago. Playing in Jr High punk bands led to me pursuing recording techniques, and i got my first tape machine. From there its been a never ending journey of always learning, experimenting, and growing as a producer and artist. Ive had the privilege of working professionally for 10 years now. Im signed with PULSE, and am introduced to many new avenues of creation through the team there.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: Eclectic, Energetic, Though Provoking, Bubble Gum, Brutal, Chaotic, Clean, Technology, Nihilistic, Disco Bass.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: I am already blessed to work with many different artist from all walks of life. Its hard to pick one artist i would like to work with, when im already surrounded by so many. However, If I had to pick one, it would be someone who could push my boundaries, and encourage me to grow as a producer. Perhaps Four-Tet
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Trust in your vision and taste, don't let anyone tell you otherwise. Its YOUR project, an extension of yourself. Never doubt your work.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: Pop. Electronic + Organic meshed together to create a modern, constantly evolving sound.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: I am thoughtful and care deeply about the Artistic vision and process. Im in no rush and would rather spend the time nurturing and developing the project sonically to where the Artist is beyond pleased.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: An eclectic sound palette, skillful execution, and unique take on an inspiration or sound the artist is after.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: Thorough communication with the artist is the most important step in a solid foundation of a new project. Influences, references, and where to go sonically. Once we have our goals slated clearly in front of us, I will move forward with production. I generally will create a few demos to make sure we're moving in the right direction. From there, upon artist approval, we will write the song, and finalize production to reach our vision.
