Interview with Peachkit

  1. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  2. A: I am currently working on my second EP, scoring music for a film, co-writing with artists for their next project and have just finished producing an album for a Finnish artist which was recorded in 432hz - the natural frequency of the universe.

  3. Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?

  4. A: Elise Hayes

  5. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  6. A: I love creating something from nothing. I love turning a voice memo into a full fledged production and helping someone write the song that helps them through whatever their going through.

  7. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  8. A: Aston Spirit Mic, Roland Keyboard, Apollo Twin, Dusenberg Electric Guitar and my laptop!

  9. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  10. A: I have been in the industry for 12 years. I had my first number 1 record in 2016, and then got several cuts on more records in the top 10 the following years. I have recently moved to Nashville from London and have had syncs with Grey's Anatomy and am currently scoring an animated film.

  11. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  12. A: I would love to work with Sara Bareilles as I think her style of songwriting is not only classic but forward thinking and I love that her melodies can be so heartbreakingly unexpected and her lyrics can cut to the core in a sentence.

  13. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  14. A: Investing in a microphone that suits your voice and you feel comfortable with is one of the most important parts of vocal recording.

  15. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  16. A: I work across a wide variety of genres but mainly alternative pop, soul pop or folk music in terms of songwriting but for production I focus more on pop, alt pop and folk-tronic sounds.

  17. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  18. A: My strongest skill is lyric and melody writing, and vocal hooks. I am also a proficient piano player and love creating programmed beats.

  19. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  20. A: I bring depth, care, energy and emotional consideration to a song, both in the writing and producing of it. I love each and every moment of the process and am excited to help a client get their song where it needs to be, melodically, lyrically or sonically.

  21. Q: What's your typical work process?

  22. A: For production, my typical process is talking to the client about their sonic landscape, ask them to give me 3 reference tracks of what inspire them and then build up a pre production for them to feedback on. Once that has been approved, I'll finish recording the song and offer 3 mix revisions when the track is done. For songwriting, I will discuss with the client what they want their song to say, spend half a day to a day writing the lyrics, having a few alternative verses for them to choose from and then if I am singing the song for them, send guide vocals of the song for them to hear it and make sure that their lyrical message fits the melody.

  23. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  24. A: I have a studio in East Nashville where I record everything from singles, to EPs to full length albums. I can record vocals, acoustic and electric guitar here, and although I have midi keyboard, I have incredible samples that make it sound like a live piano take. I also have Focal speakers to make sure the sound quality is as high as it can be.

  25. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  26. A: I am hugely inspired by Imogen Heap and all her work with vocal production and harmonies, and am also hugely inspired by Carole King and her piano melodies and instrumentation arrangement.

  27. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  28. A: As a songwriter, I will either write or co-write the lyrics and melody for or with clients. As a producer, I will produce the track from either a voice note or basic garage band projects from the client and will either play or programme all the instruments myself or hire out other musicians.
