Christine Lam on SoundBetter

Elevate your sound with Faerie. With spellbinding expertise in toplining, vocal recording, and songwriting since 2016, together we'll weave melodies that captivate. Recognized by Earmilk, Indie Shuffle, American Songwriter, and Spotify (Fresh Finds), trust me to ensure your track is truly magical.

How did Christine Lam manage to spread her wings and fly in the music world? Faith, trust, and a little bit of 'Faerie' dust. Described by Unclear Magazine as “futuristic and fun,” Faerie fuses bedroom pop and elements of dreamy indie music to craft her unique sound. With playlist landings like American Songwriter’s “Hot Indie Favorites”, Indie Shuffle and Grrrl Music’s “New Music Friday,” and press from the likes of EARMILK (under a featured collaboration project), The Luna Collective, and The Wild Honey Pie, Faerie’s indie rise is only continuing
higher.

Faerie blends ethereal vocals with a decade of vocal training and being self-taught on guitar and piano. Inspired by Paramore, Lorde, and Fleetwood Mac, she crafts infectious melodies and introspective lyrics. She infuses her music with a captivating blend of vulnerability and strength, ensuring each track reaches its fullest potential, infusing a touch of magic into every project.

"If you are in love with Noah Cyrus' graceful guitar hooks and exquisite lyrics from Lana Del Rey's 'Chemtrails Over The Country Club,' you'll be charmed by the New York-based singer-songwriter." - The Honey POP

I didn't exactly know what I wanted for my song but knew I wanted female harmonies in the chorus. When I told Faerie she immediately came back with ideas and recorded a perfect sample for me to hear everything together. By the end of the week, I was mixing the vocals and showing my friends how awesome it sounded.

Interview with Christine Lam

  1. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  2. A: Make sure you have your materials ready! I provide an Introduction Questionnaire for a smooth start. Having a vision, like an inspo playlist or demo, helps tailor my services. Remember, pitching your project can be a little scary, but don't worry- we'll navigate it together and discuss every step. You got this! <3

  3. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  4. A: One project close to my heart is my 2023 EP, 'dizzy spells.' Here, I took on roles as vocalist and songwriter. Collaborating with talents like Matty Bedrosian (Yummm) and Christian Young (ImTrying), we explored new sonic realms while finding solace in the lyrics. It's been a deeply personal journey, and I'm grateful to share it with you all! I'm ready to continue this journey. :)

  5. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  6. A: I'm currently diving into writing music inspired by folk and alternative sounds, with a touch of psych-pop. This direction involves more intimate songwriting, following the creative growth showcased in my recent EP, 'dizzy spells.'

  7. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  8. A: My focus is Pop, Indie/Alternative, Folk, Nu-Disco, and Electric-Pop. Don't let that stop you from reaching out if you think my vocals fit into your track (that's not any of the genres listed)!

  9. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  10. A: What I love most about my job is connecting with like-minded individuals who use music to tell their intimate stories. I find so much joy in listening to their experiences and advice, learning and growing alongside them as we navigate the industry and life together.

  11. Q: What's your typical work process?

  12. A: Typically, you pitch your idea, including your vision, influences, and desired vocal sound (inspo playlists are encouraged!). You send me the track, and I provide a free short demo with my vocals. I also send an Introduction Form to understand your project better and as an artist. After sending a short demo for your approval, we proceed with drafting a contract and begin work on the final recording. Communication is key! I keep you informed about my next scheduled recording session, so we're on track to meet your deadline.

  13. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  14. A: Everything is recorded in my bedroom studio. I have an isolation shield when recording. My gear includes Logic Pro X, Focusrite Scarlett Solo USB Audio Interface (Gen 3), Audio-Technica AT4040, Sennheiser e 845-S Supercardioid Dynamic Microphone, LX1E Little Martin Acoustic-Electric Guitar,
Alesis V25 USB-Midi Keyboard & Drum Pad Controller, Casio CDP-220R Keyboard, and a Fender Acoustasonic 40 - 40-watt Acoustic Amp.

  15. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  16. A: My recent EP, 'dizzy spells,' draws inspiration from Tame Impala, Arctic Monkeys, Lana Del Rey, Faye Webster, Fleetwood Mac, and Lorde. Currently, I find inspiration in artists like Bleachers, Mitski, The Japanese House, Men I Trust, and Troye Sivan.

  17. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  18. A: I primarily collaborate with producers, providing vocal recording and songwriting services. Most commonly, I work on vocal recording, offering three package options: Basic, Pro, and Elite. Each package includes various levels of vocal recordings, demos, and revisions, tailored to fit your needs and budget. With options ranging from lead vocals to backing vocals, I guarantee your vision is brought to life!

  19. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  20. A: I strive to bring songs to life with just the right touch of emotion and storytelling. I value collaboration, so I take all feedback seriously to fulfill your vision. Whether it's vocal, mixing, or composition suggestions, I aim to enhance your track to its fullest potential and exceed your expectations!
