Christine Lam on SoundBetter

As Faerie, I've collaborated with over 15 indie producers and musicians with published tracks on all major streaming platforms. I specialize in toplining, female vocal recording, and composition. I value collaboration and will work with you until your vision is executed at its best! Seasonal, return, and referral discounts are available!

Faerie is a fluttering indie-pop manifestation of Christine Lam’s daydreams and fantasies. Her music is set in danceable grooves layered with dreamy synths and lyrics filled with wonder and escapism. Growing up in a New York household filled with music, Faerie was encouraged to attend vocal training for more than 12 years. She was then inspired to become a self-taught guitarist and pianist to help express the floating melodies in her mind.

She graduated with a BA in Arts Administration (Music Concentration) and fully embodied the essence of Faerie. Her influences include artists such as Bleachers, Lorde, Mitski, Harry Styles, Maggie Rogers, The Marias, Regina Spektor, and Christine and the Queens. Soon after, she released her debut single, “Fever Dream,” with Canadian producer, Jonathan Atkins (wavcat) followed by her debut EP, 2am, in 2021.

At 25, Faerie has been received by EARMILK, The Wild Honey Pie, and Keep Walking Music. She plans on continuing to explore the fleeting universe of Faerie, learning more about and engaging with the music industry as she goes.

"If you are in love with Noah Cyrus' graceful guitar hooks and exquisite lyrics from Lana Del Rey's 'Chemtrails Over The Country Club,' you'll be charmed by the New York-based singer-songwriter." - The Honey POP

Interview with Christine Lam

  1. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  2. A: An EP with more dreamy, psychpop, and indie pop elements! Super excited to publish it later this year. Fingers crossed!

  3. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  4. A: I love talking to like-minded people who just want to use their music as a way of telling their intimate stories. I'm learning so much by listening to their stories and advice on navigating through the industry and life in general.

  5. Q: What's your typical work process?

  6. A: The client will usually pitch their idea (vision, influences, description of how the vox should sound like, etc.), send me the track, and I would record a free draft with my vox. I usually send an Introduction Form to fill out so I can get to know them better as an artist and to make sure I'm the right fit for their project. Then I would send a short demo with my vocals or lyrics to make sure they like where it's headed. If everything is good, I'll draft a contract and start working on the final recording.

  7. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  8. A: Everything is recorded in my bedroom studio. I have an isolation shield when recording. My gear includes Logic Pro X, Focusrite Scarlett Solo USB Audio Interface (Gen 3), Audio-Technica AT4040, Sennheiser e 845-S Supercardioid Dynamic Microphone, LX1E Little Martin Acoustic-Electric Guitar,
Alesis V25 USB-Midi Keyboard & Drum Pad Controller, Casio CDP-220R Keyboard, and a Fender Acoustasonic 40 - 40-watt Acoustic Amp.

  9. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  10. A: Definitely Regina Spektor, AURORA, Joni Mitchell, Stevie Nicks, Lorde, Jack Antonoff, Christine and the Queens, Harry Styles, Maggie Rogers, and Edith Piaf. My most recent inspirations also include Alex Turner, The Strokes, HAIM, Bon Iver, Faye Webster, Men I Trust, and Mitski.

  11. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  12. A: I usually work with indie producers who need a female vocalist, songwriter, or both. They usually prepare a demo of the track or the finished track for me to write/record over. The most common type of work I do is vocal recording. I have different packages to fit your needs so an Elite Vocal Package will include: lead and backing vocals (up to 8 stems to choose from), new vocal melodies, 3 demos, 2 free revisions. Lyrics are usually prepared for me to sing and to create a vocal melody.

  13. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  14. A: I try my best to bring life to a song with the right amount of emotion and strong storytelling. I value collaboration and take every minor and major piece of feedback seriously in order to fulfill my client's vision. I will do my best to contribute any vocal, mixing, or composition feedback/suggestions to bring your track to 110%.
