Interview with Thomas Warburton
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: I don't care If your just starting out or your the biggest Rockstar in the world, I'm writing the best song that I possibly can each time I'm hired. Every piece of work that I do is something I can be proud of.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: Every song is a difficult puzzle, the picture varies but the feeling of completion at the end is a drug
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: When I'm not working on clients music I'm usually working on songs for my own catalogue.
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: Analog synths, guitars and drums but digital recording.
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Know exactly what you want so you can give me clear instructions, provide reference tracks that sound like you want.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: I'd like to work with some of my close friends more. Because making music is about having fun!
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: Idea generation and clever lyrics.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: My tastes and my personality. I like what I like and those preferences and choices are my sonic fingerprint.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: I listen to the demo I've been given and then try to work out the harmony and melody on the piano. Once I understand what's going on musically I can then start to make some production decisions. If you've given me a reference track I try to create something similar or If not I'll start experimenting with different ideas until I've got a finished song
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: I create the instrumental tracks for a lot of singers learning to sing. They might have ideas for songs they have written on the piano and the guitar but they don't know anything about recording or production. That's where I step in and help the artist create the songs they have written.
