HI! I'm Ainsley, a 2x Latin Grammy winning sound engineer, songwriter and producer who has worked for artists such as Adele, Jessie J, The Kooks, Train, Beverly Knight and Jesse & Joy. I now have a studio in Berlin and lead a small team that can provide all stages of music production.
My first studio job was 20 years ago and I've been involved in the music business ever since. I learnt the bulk of the trade at Kensaltown Studios in London, where I worked for 5 years, eventually as one of the in-house engineers and as beat programmer and co-producer. There, I was lucky enough to work daily alongside some incredibly talented individuals who I consider my mentors; Sacha Skarbek (James Blunt, Miley Cyrus) and Martin Terefe (Jason Mraz, James Morrison). Other regulars at Kensaltown were Jamie Hartman (Backstreet Boys, Rag'n'Bone Man) and Yusuf Islam (formerly Cat Stevens). I got to work around countless major label artists (some mentioned above), and on a very long list of projects.
I have since relocated to Berlin where I work from my own studio. This is a comfortable 2 room facility with adequate acoustics, a piano, vocal booth, great instruments, plenty of cool toys and a comfortable sofa! I am mostly focused on writing and 'hand's on' production, but also enjoy engineering work: mixing and mastering. I work with a small team and between us we cover all aspects of the music creation process. I am also interested in artist development, and am working with a few new acts.
Feel free to contact me for more information. There is a good chance I can help!

5 ReviewsEndorse Ainsley Adams
In over 15 years of working full time in music I've been in the studio with many engineers and producers, and I must say that Ainsley is one of the very best. His commitment to going the extra mile to make things sound just right is incredibly impressive, as are the results from a sonic perspective. Ainsley has a depth of knowledge that I've rarely seen when it comes to every aspect of recording, and to add to that he is a very creative producer, editor and is going from strength to strength as a songwriter. He's also a lovely guy. Encouraging, supportive and a great laugh. Book him!
I guarantee you'll be happy with the end result if Ainsley is on your team. Genuine, constructive, and engaged. Ainsley is able to pick apart ideas and put them into reality. Wether it's engineering or production I recommend Ainsley for your project, I'd be privileged to work with him again some time.
What a guy! Ainsley is a fantastic engineer, passionate, kind, patient, enthusiastic and fantastic communicator - pretty much everything you would want a producer to be. A day working with Ainsley, is a day you won't forget!!
Ainsley Adams is a great engineer. He is easy to work with and he is not scared to suggest edits on the mix to get the best possible master. He’s done several projects for releases on our label, Subtempo, and we are really happy with the results.
It's always a pleasure working with Ainsley! He is real professional, a top-notch Producer and very easy to communicate with. Highly recommended :)
Interview with Ainsley Adams
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: Intuitive and meticulous.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: Music production, mixing and mastering. I prefer not to do all stages myself, because I believe having more ears on your project makes the outcome richer. Depending on each case, I will find the best way to get the required results, whether that is doing the work myself or delegating to other members of my team. However, I always oversee all stages of the project.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: It's a comfortable two-room facility with a vocal booth, made to feel relaxed and inspiring.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: I think Max Martin is a genius, and other big influences for me are Prince, Rick Rubin and Quincy Jones. I also love anything that involves Andy Wallace, Sylvia Massey and Steve Albini. To be honest, I have a lot of heroes in this world!
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: Mostly pop, with elements of electronic, rock and hip hop. However, I like to mix styles and experiment to find fresh ideas.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Yes, get a really comfortable chair!
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: Right now, I think it would be Sia. She is an amazing songwriter, has an absolutely astounding voice, and seems like a genuine, fun and easy person to be around. Plus, all her songs are hits!
Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?
A: Yes, my good friend Thomas Juth. One of the best mixing engineers around.
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: I'm developing an exciting new act from Canada. We're working on writing, production and mixing for 3 songs.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: Unless it's a very simple job, it really depends on the artist's needs. It always starts with a conversation, and we make sure that people are comfortable throughout the process and leave with something they can feel good about.
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: It's one of the smaller projects: a spanish band I developed called 'Zoo'. They were old friends of mine from the area where I grew up and just starting out. I wrote and produced 5 songs which went on their first album, and launched them as one of (if not the) most successful band in the Valencia Region.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: The challenge of creating a great experience.
