Grammy Award winning engineer (Willie Nelson) with over two decades of experience in Country/Americana/Blues mixing. TOP CREDITS: Dolly Parton, Lainey Wilson, Megan Moroney, Gwen Stefani & Blake Shelton, Cody Johnson, Kenny Rogers, Merle Haggard, Reba McEntire. My specialty is high quality analog mixing & mastering with a major focus on vocals.
Starting my career with producers Brent Maher (Tina Turner, Sly & The Family Stone, Ray Charles, The Judds) and Fred Foster (Kris Kristofferson, Roy Orbison, Willie Nelson, Dolly Parton), I've learned from the best. I've worked in Nashville since 2002 originally on analog tape recording various Americana, rock, and country artists. I work fast and efficient. See playlists and more credits below!

Charles has a great mastering instinct. He really took my mix to a higher level and gave it the great analog edge it needed while preserving the shine of it. Awesome.

Charles is the man. Super quick response times, was attentive to our feedback, and was able to finish our 50-track folk/rock single, within a week (5 revisions, we were very picky!). Patient and speedy, would highly recommend!

I ordered mastering for 2 of my instrumental compositions from Charles, and I am extremely satisfied with this collaboration!
Charles was able to fix issues creating in mixing through his mastering skills. He was very quick to provide masters and revised versions.
On top of that, he was very flexible and answered precisely every time I had a technical question / request.

Fantastic to work with. Quick response, straightforward, even helped me fix an annoying little noise in my mix that I hadn't noticed until it was too late. Highly recommend.
Charles is absolutely amazing to work with! He has such an innate ability to pinpoint exactly what you are hearing and what needs to happen and he is quick as lightning to make everything perfect. He is also just a great guy to work with...very positive and just super great to be around.
Interview with Charles Yingling
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: Flight Attendant's 2022 Self Titled LP. I produced and mixed the project.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: I promise to deliver the most competitive yet musical product beyond your expectations.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: The first 10 seconds of pulling up a new mix or master.
Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A: Can you play all the instruments on my project? Sorry no.
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: Probably that as a mixer I can fix everything in the mix. I try to explain and work with customers about the recording process as well so they get the best product in the end.
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: I usually ask for small details like their recording process, what they are expecting out of the job, and any musical references they are trying to hit.
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Don’t be afraid to ask anything.
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: Acoustic Guitar, megaphone, congas, tambos, kick drum
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I've been recording, mixing, and mastering for 20 years. I started as a graduate at The Conservatory of Recording Arts & Sciences, then ended up in Nashville TN working for producer/engineers like Brent Maher & Fred Foster.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: Organic yet aggressive gearing everything towards the most dynamics possible.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: Muse.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: Rock / Hip Hop / Americana / Country. Anything with a groove.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: I'm able to mix or master a song at a very high quality and super fast. (20 years experience with artists like Willie Nelson, Taj Mahal, Kenny Rogers, and producers like Fred Foster and Brent Maher) I don't waste time on things in the studio that aren't important to the song itself.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: I like to concentrate on the song as the most inspiring part of the recording, so vocals are the most important part of the mix or master for me.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: Mixing and mastering... I like to receive files and get to work right away on the console.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: I operate a 1978 Trident TSM console for mixing and mastering services. I also have Otari MTR90 Tape machine for any tape needs. Racks of outboard gear as well.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: High resolution analog mixing and mastering
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: A Tribute to The Judds
Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?
A: Joe Robinson
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: Both, because both are amazing tools!
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Don't waste time on things that don't matter to the listener.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: Any producer that can make records with live musicians.
