My name is Ilia Mazia. I play Armenian duduk for about twenty years. I performed and recorded with many artists in different styles - with world- and folk music bands (Ana Alcaide, Vellua, Ciwan Haco), with blues and rock musicians, with Jerusalem symphony orchestra, women's vocal ensemble Sirenot and electronic projects (Red Avenue, Digital Samsara). I can compose or improvise for you or play your written or recorded part. I can play duduk in authentic "Oriental" style, or with jazzy elements and feeling, or in "academic", classic style. I have high quality duduks in different keys.

I play also some other folk wind instruments - Armenian-Kurdish long shepherd flute called blul (kaval), tin whistle, ocarina, Native American flute etc. Please pay attention - I listed myself as "Flutes", "Oboe", "Clarinet", but I play duduk and some ethnic flutes only. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Listen carefully to sound samples on profile, read reviews, don't hesitate to ask as many questions as needed. Please let me listen to your song and explain me the task before making an order - duduk has limited possiblities, not everything is playable.
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: My "A" duduk made by the legendary duduk maker Karlen and as many reeds as possible.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: I play Armenian duduk with a real feeling and with a deep authentic sound. I can compose or improvise for you. I can play your written or pre-recorded part. I can play duduk in authentic "Oriental" style, or with jazzy elements and feeling, or in "academic", classic style.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: Listening to a song\playback. Speaking\chatting with a client to understand her\his needs. Listening again and again. Recording. Listening.
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: I just finished duduk recording for two compositions (one - my solo, one - with ensemble) for the theatrical play Edipus Rex in Kiev.
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I am in love with duduk for more than 20 years.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: World, ambient, folk, rock, pop... even classic... I had no experience with death metal yet, but I'd like to.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: Authentic soulful deep sound of duduk.

A: A piece of my heart. :-)

Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: "Duduk sound is good mainly for world\ ambient music". Definitely not! I performed and recorded with pop musicians, with blues and rock bands, with Jerusalem symphony orchestra and with women's vocal ensemble Sirenot playing contemporary classic music, collaborated with electronic projects (Vellua, Digital Samsara, Sergey Gabbasov).
