Interview with Michael Badal
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: It's different strokes for different folks. it's really a matter of taste. I personally love the sound of analog, but it's not always needed or even wanted depending on the project. My studio is capable of analog summing and can provide my clients with a hybrid mix where their songs are mixed in the DAW, but are summed out through my analog gear and brought back in for the final render.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: I love bringing my client's project to a close for them. I get to see them finally listen to their project in its finished state after months of them producing and recording their pieces of art. And for them to trust me with the final mix and master of their project is an honor I don't take lightly.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: I work on anything from Dance music to Classical to Pop to Rock to Hip Hop and everything in between. I don't discriminate on style and genre. My clients come from all kinds of musical walks and I embrace it as it keeps my job very interesting.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: I run Logic Pro X primarily, but also have Pro Tools running in the studio. For mixing and mastering, I have Focal Shape Twin and Avantone Mix Cube monitors, a Dangerous Music 2-BUS+, an array of UAD-2 and Waves plugins, a MOTU 896mk3 interface, and a TC Electronic Clarity M for metering.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: For clients, the most common type of work I perform is in the form of mixing, mastering, and remixing. I also produce music for myself and other artists as well.
