Interview with Maximilian (Mad Max Records)

Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: I'll ask about the sort of sound they're going for and a couple of other things.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: With any artist who is eager to develop themselves musically.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: It's what gives me the most meaning in life.
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: My album that will hit all streaming-services around November/December.
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: That I keep within a specific genre.
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Please keep things "down to earth" and communicate your needs and visions clearly if you can.
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: Computer, d:Facto mic and a guitar would be sufficient.
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I started out back in 2008, although really got some proper momentum during the last couple of years after I had built a recording studio.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: Varied.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: If you love what you do then you will become really good at it. No single tip will do the trick.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: Pop/Rock/Alternative/Funk/Soul.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: Perseverance, "thinking outside the box" thinking. "Less is more" holds true at times. At other times "more is more" as Yngwie Malmsteen once jokingly proclaimed.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: Lots of creativity, variety, energy, feeling, timelessness (I try at least to aim in such a direction). I'm not all that fond of the mainstream sound, hence I try to create something a bit different by mixing various genres together.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: I enjoy long recordning sittings, then I give it a couple of days and listen to what I've got with a bit more "impartial ears". Then I repeat the process till I'm satisfied with the sound.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: It got the sufficient gear to do the job. I built my own recording studio.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: All sort of styles. When people view my playslist they're often surprised that it includes such a vast variety of genres.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: Putting on vocal tracks, producing and recording music.
