Dani Blau on SoundBetter

Bilingual songwriter, topliner, singer, and vocal arranger. Singles placed with The Fray, Sebastian Yatra and more.

Hi!

I’m a fully bilingual songwriter from Costa Rica and now based in Los Angeles, CA.

During my first years as a songwriter, I received two BMI Foundation awards, and fast-forward 12+ years, I've placed singles with top artists in the US, Latin America, and Europe (The Fray, Sebastian Yatra, Tini, HaAsh, Mercurio, Chenoa, etc), and continously collaborated with well renowned songwriters, producers, and other industry professionals (i.e., Mark Portmann, Aureo Baqueiro, Claudia Brant, etc).

I'm now in the studio with Andres Torres, Mauricio Rengifo, Ale Alberti, Fede Vindver, Angel Lopez, Space Primates, The Fliptones, among others. Artists performing some of the upcoming singles I've co-written include Jencarlos, Jesse Baez, Saak, Arévalo, Javier Ramirez, etc.

I offer top-quality demo vocals (for demos, etc), writing (melody, lyrics, topline), and vocal coaching/arrangement during studio sessions. All services offered in both English and Spanish.

Let's do it :)

Dani is a wonderful singer-songwriter with a particular sensitivity for pop melodies and lyrics. The way she connects reality and poetry in her lyrics is truly a gift. Her songs are great both in English, Spanish and also forms genius plays on words for the Spanglish/Bilingual audiences. She is very professional, always brings good vibes to the sessions and her voice has a velvety sound that is hard not to love!

Dani is one of the most versatile songwriters I've ever worked with! We've had the chance to work on some amazing projects together and she's always the one who comes up with the best ideas. Lyrics and Melody are Dani's strengths and she's always striving to push everyone in the session just a bit further to get the best and most original results.

I have worked with Dani Blau on multiple occasions, both as a songwriter/topliner and vocalist. I have nothing but positive things to say about her, she's reliable, fast and professional. As a songwriter you can expect great melodic and lyrical content, specially if you're looking for top 40 material. And as a singer, top quality sounding vocals for your demos. 100% recommended.

Interview with Dani Blau

  1. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  2. A: I'm always in the room, always writing with other producers, writers, artists.

  3. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  4. A: The high of creating, of catching a cool vibe and turning it into something inmortal. In person, being able to get in a room with a bunch of people (i sometimes have never met before) and make magic.

  5. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  6. A: - More details about what they need done. - If possibly, I like to listen to what I will be working on before I say OK and send a proposal. - Deadline (if any) - What they need to receive (RAW vocal stems, edited vocals, harmonies/stacks, only writing, only consulting/edits, etc) - Number of revisions they would like.

  7. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  8. A: my guitar, a mic, an interphase, a solar-powered laptop, a solar-powered wi-fi modem/router (wishful thinking but whatev).

  9. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  10. A: I started writing my first songs after a horsebackriding accident (was unconscious, had heavy surgery, etc). I used to compete internationally and after the accident, I wasn't able to ride anymore, so music was my way out of that low, and it became the biggest blessing I could ask for. I wanna say I wrote my first songs in 2007... time flies.

  11. Q: How would you describe your style?

  12. A: Top40 with original melodies and good lyrics.

  13. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  14. A: N/A

  15. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  16. A: American pop, World pop, Urban (the melodic/pop side), Latin pop, Latin urban (reggaeton style).

  17. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  18. A: Melodies and lyrics. When co-writing: finding a sweet spot that merges everyones vibe in the best way possible. Recording: bilingual vocals.

  19. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  20. A: Versatility in melody and lyrics, depending on genre and client/artist's taste.. from the catchiest pop songwriting to deeper lyrics and melodies characteristic of many other genres. I have mixed roots (Latin, Middle-eastern, European) and my style has been influenced by the places i've lived in (American), music I listen to (many genres), etc. Aside from being fully bilingual, I notice many times how all of this is reflected melodically in my writing. In terms of vocals, not only am I extremely picky when recording and comping vocals, but arrangements and harmonies are one of my favorite things to do, so when given the opportunity to play around, I will happily give the vocals that extra something.

  21. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  22. A: For songwriting/toplining purposes, this isn't so relevant, but when it comes to cutting vocals, I'm in the studio every week with top-level producers and engineers and can delivery undeniably well-recorded work.

  23. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  24. A: Way too many to name :)

  25. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  26. A: Top-quality vocals, in-studio vocal arrangement, vocal coaching, and songwriting/topline services.
