Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: I enjoy the challenge of making someone's project sound great.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: I try to find out as much as possible about what is needed or desired, this includes references to other music, or plot and scene information there's video. Then I develop some ideas and generate mockups to share and get feedback from the client.
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Try to form a clear idea of how you would like your project to sound. Think of ways to communicate that as best as you can and then find the person who understands your needs well and can deliver in a timely manner.
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: A guitar, keyboard controller, laptop, a giant battery, and a solar panel.
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I was a music performance major at Berklee College in the late 80's early 90's. After graduation, I spent 4 years in the Air Force Band as a guitarist. I moved to Seattle, WA in the late 90's and continued to play and teach. I opened SophiaHat Studio in 2000 and have been recording every since.
