Award-winning songwriter, producer, mixing engineer, multi-instrumentalist, owner & chief operator of Echo Base Production, one-third of the 2Many Cooks production team, pop/R&B/hip-hop obsessive, Prince devotee, pocket aficionado.
Hello! I'm Nate Mondschein (aka Best Mann), a songwriter, producer, mixing engineer, multi-instrumentalist, & owner/chief operator of Echo Base Production, a music production company based out of Vermont. Across a decade-plus, I've has worked alongside a diverse array of musical artists in a variety of genres, from pop powerhouse (Camille Trust) to eccentric indie-rock (Henry Hall), contemporary RnB (DANAE.) to alternative hip-hop (Josh The Word). I also write & produce music for various synch and commercial outlets, including Viacom & Row House.
In 2019, I received the ASCAP Robert Allen Award for my production, songwriting, & mixing work with Camille Trust. I've also had my music featured in a variety of publications, including The New Yorker, Afropunk, & Okayplayer.
With every Echo Base production, I do my best to bring to the table my passion for emotive, emotionally authentic performance, a drive to create (and manipulate) compelling analog sounds in a modern context, an ear for creative yet catchy arrangements, an encyclopedic catalog of musical references to draw upon and incorporate in an innovative way, & an unending commitment to the pocket. My studio is fully equipped for remote songwriting, production, & mixing sessions.

Endorse Best Mann AKA Nate MondscheinNate is a super talented human in every way. As a producer he's patient, encouraging, collaborative, honest, and is capable of taking abstract ideas and creating amazing songs. He's incredibly knowledgable about the production process and helps walk artists through the various steps. He's a fantastic songwriter and his approach to his work shows his passion and excitement to make amazing music but also help artists grow. Working with Nate is one of the greatest things I've ever done!
It is an absolute honor to work with Nate. It’s hard to find people in the industry who are able to see your vision and be just as excited about it as you are and that is exactly how it is working with Nate. He takes one of my simple yet complicated ideas and he masters exactly what I’m looking for. Not only is he a killer producer but an incredibly smart and gifted writer as well. It’s really a magic combo to have him wear so many in the writing and producing process. Thank you Nate for truly being a genius and being a part of my projects! 3 songs down, many more to come!
Interview with Best Mann AKA Nate Mondschein
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: My goal in developing the Echo Base Production studio was been to facilitate the multi-instrumental style of production that I work in with the least amount of necessary setup/breakdown when shifting gears from one instrument to the next. As such, my rig includes a variety of stations for guitar and bass amps, a drum kit, a Rhodes stage 73, and a vocal section all mic'ed and ready to track. I work through an Apogee interface, and use a variety of Neve/DBX/AEA/Warm Audio outboard gear. My mic selection is diverse enough to accommodate any style of production, including a variety of AKG, Beyerdynamic, Shure, Warm Audio, and Lauten dynamic/LDC/ribbon mics. I also often utilize virtual instruments on my tracks, and have relied heavily on Arturia V Collection, Kontakt, and Serum. The studio is setup to run through either Pro Tools or Logic Pro.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: Blake Mills and Ariel Rechtshaid are two of the producers who's work and approach to production resonate with me most directly. As a songwriter and artist, musicians like SZA, Frank Ocean, Khalid, Charlie Puth, Carly Rae Jepsen, Demi Lovato, Bon Iver, Sufjan Stevens, Moses Sumney, The National, and Anaïs Mitchell are all incredibly influential to my work.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: My recent work has tended to go in three unique, yet interconnected directions: the first, and most traditional, is a more standard approach to production in which I'll work with a band to develop their songs and arrangements, facilitate their recording sessions, and in many cases provide additional instrumentation to finalize the arrangement. I also frequently work in more front-to-back productions for artists in which I'll facilitate sessions to record their core vocal/instrumental track and then fully produce/perform multi-instrumental arrangements to bring those tracks to life, mixing the final product for delivery. Finally, I do a good amount of songwriting/production jobs, which generally involve my composing and arranging a song for an artist who will then track their vocals, and then I'll finalize the arrangement for mix.
