Alternative Arab Rock Band

kuwaisiana on SoundBetter

Bilingual alternative Arab rock band with songs in Arabic/English 🇰🇼🇵🇸🇺🇸

Based in Seattle-Tacoma, Kuwaisiana is a bilingual alt-rock trio, melding Arabic and English in their lyrics. The band articulates Arab angst, juxtaposing harsh textures inspired by the first waves of grunge and punk with softer shimmering harmonies, anthemic melodies and blissful hooks.

Their music offers a journey of self-discovery and resilience, promoting Arab-American and Khaleeji Arab voices in the global scene. As +Aziz believes, "Identity is fluid," a concept that propels their music beyond boundaries, embracing shared experiences and collective expression.

Pre-COVID, the band was originally assembled as an ambitious 8-piece in New Orleans, aiming to redefine Arabic and Arab representation in rock. Relocating from Kuwait in 2009, +Aziz sought to echo his experience through music blending diverse influences into Kuwaisiana's unique sound. After COVID, +Aziz reformed the group as a trio with Yousef Shami and Brian Riedel to further explore a mix of grunge, indie, funk, and punk, while defying genres to reflect on the world from an Arab’s perspective and tackle universal themes.
